He can take his 855-1 mill a season salary or kick stones by the side of the gardiner expressway.

This has been mentioned elsewhere, but in case you didn't know the Leafs can't walk away from  Fraser's contract if the arbitrator awards him less than $3.5mil. So the team will be stuck with whatever he gets.

I know, I just am tired of seeing people get overpaid.  If's it's more then 1.1 max I really hope nonis turns around and deals him to the west coast. We have more important players to be fitting into our cap atm then a 4th liner we could theoretically replace quite easily. I like how he played and his ability to lay everything he had on the line but money talks nowadays more then talent in some cases. He could price himself onto a new team. Players I would hope keep that in mind at least a little bit during contract talks.

Isn't there a restriction on trading a player awarded arbitration?

I'm not too worried about what Mark Fraser is going to make. He's asking for 2 million and the Leafs are offering 855k, are we really going to get all bent out of shape about the money that separates them?

I'm more worried about them overpaying Kadri, than I am about Fraser.

But... it would be nice to get Fraser close to $1 million. That combined with Ranger's $1 mill contract would be decent value for 2 usable guys.

Busty... It's still baseball style abritration, correct? Arbitrator picks one number or the other, not something in between?

I'm pretty sure the arbitrator can find a spot in between, but, I'm not 100% sure. I'll check the relevant sections of the CBA and get back to you.

EDIT: I can't find anything in the CBA that specifies things either way, and, in the absence of that, my guess is the arbitrator pretty much has free reign in determining the salary he awards.

Thx Busty.. much appreciated.

Signed...

1 year, $1.275 mil.

Probably a touch more than I would have liked, but they avoided arbitration. Now there is only $5mil left to sign both Franson and Kadri. Something has to give. Hopefully Liles switches uniforms soon.

$350K more than I would have given him, and, in this case, it would have been enough for me to walk away - though, I suppose the Leafs didn't really have that option.

I like this signing. Glad Fraser is aboard.

Liles to Colorado so he can join his ol roomies!

There you go. No muss, no fuss. It may read to some a bit on the high side but realistically I don't think the Leafs had much of a case if they used him the way they did last year and then tried to argue that he was a fringe NHL player at best.

I am glad he is a Leaf.  Against Boston in the playoffs, Fraser comfortably fought their toughest Bruin in Thornton and held his own, lost by a slight edge but held his own none the less.

6'4" 220 lbs, 6 th defenseman.  I am pleased.

Now sort out the top 5 defensemen Nonis.

Demote Holzer and Trevor Smith and there is Fraser's deal covered.  $6.2 mil for Kadri/Franson.

This could happen after Franson signs.

Colorado has the cap space can't they just take him for a low draft pick?  His salary is really screwing the Leafs on D right now.

Leaving the Leafs with a 20 man roster and no cap space to call anyone up in case of injury/illness.

Then you have a 21 man roster, one injury extra and right up against the cap isn't an ideal situation.

I believe Liles will be traded, but I'm not sure where he goes. I guess Colorado is as good a place as any and they could absorb the contract I think.

I was hoping for a Leaf trade to Nashville and Florida not Colorado but that is for the fantasy thread not the Mark Fraser thread.

For what it's worth I don't think a Liles to Colorado trade is likelier than any other. It's a whole new regime there and they're no more likely to be high on Liles than anyone else. Moreover I'd bet there'd probably be some organizational backlash to the idea of moving backwards like that.
