Marlies Talk

Awesome. Although looking at the translation one more time it sounds a little more like that team was just considering Lashoff as a potential target.

Assuming the Leafs acquire a veteran goaltender this summer, that leaves Reimer, Scrivens, Rynnas and Owuya fighting for three spots on the Leafs and Marlies.  Who is the odd man out?

My bet is the Leafs either move Reimer in a trade or do not resign Rynnas, and RFA.

IF a vet goalie comes in, I assume someone is traded from the list you posted, I doubt it'll be either of Rynnas or Owuya, so that means one of Reimer, Scrivens.

Rynnas ends up in the ECHL. Problem solved without having to move anyone.

As an RFA, would Rynnas not be looking for some type of assurance that he would be in the AHL?  I know that both Scrivens and Owuya signed as UFA with the Leafs organization knowing that they would start in the ECHL, but that is different from Rynnas who has never played below the AHL?

Rynnas isn't going to get that guarantee from anyone. His AHL numbers are decidedly ordinary. If he's not willing to potentially play in the ECHL, he'll be back in Europe next season. Also, did spend some time in the ECHL last season.

I don't think it's that easy.  I think both of Reimer/Scrivens would hope for a minimum an NHL back-up role next season.  I can't see Reimer being happy at going back to AHL, and Scrivens has done almost all he can do at the AHL level this year.

Reimer and Scrivens both understand how things work and that, if they're both still in the organization next season, one of them will be with the Marlies. Whether they're happy about it or not, once they're under contract, if they want to earn their money, they'll play on whichever Toronto based team the organization tells them they're playing for.

I don't think Reimer or Scrivens are waiver exempt next season. I assume they'll get RFA Scrivens re-signed.

So if a NHL UFA vet is signed and sticks with the Leafs, the Leafs have a few options:

1. Keep three goalies on the NHL roster (unlikely)
2. Trade one of Reimer or Scrivens
3. Place one of them on waivers and hope they clear (many in their situation do clear)

Owuya is waiver exempt and becomes a RFA at the end of nest season so he'll likely return to the Marlies.

Rynnas is a RFA this summer. He's either been hurt or not performed as well as the others. If it's the latter, at 25 years old, I might be tempted to not re-sign him and see what other young UFA goalies would like to be coached by Allaire.

Oh and Carlton, I figured Percy and Granberg might play for the Marlies, based on your superior knowledge on the matter, bring those others back if we don't have any prospects coming through the system to replace them.

Just to clarify, Percy is actually ineligible to play in the AHL this upcoming season because of his age, so it's the OHL or NHL for him (OHL obviously). And the Leafs had to sign Granberg by June 1st or they would have lost his rights and he would have re-entered the draft like Olden, Brodin, and Nicholls. So it's not really an indication that he'll be coming over. A reliable Swedish source on twitter also reported that he would be staying in Sweden for another year.

There was a note in a Sun article saying Granberg was expected at camp, not sure that means a ton, still.

That probably referred to rookie camp. I don't recall him being there before.

EDIT: I looked it up and he's been to orientation camp before. Not the rookie camp.

Also expected at the camp is newly signed defenceman Petter Granberg, a member of Sweden?s world junior champions.

I wonder if the media are presuming there because of the signing.

33 games into the season, last year's dominant and championship AHL team, the Norfolk Admirals, now have one less loss (17) than they had all of last season (18).  They won their conference by a whole 19 points last year and are now tied for last in points in their conference.  Wow.

A large part of the reasoning behind that is last year, they were the Lightning's AHL affiliate. This year, they're Anaheim's. Tampa Bay's new affiliate, Syracuse, is currently the top team in the league.

Wow, didn't know that.  I guess that's kind of the entirety of the reasoning...

True. I may have undersold that one a little.

Also, while I'm sure it's not that drastic doesn't the nature of the AHL sort of make swings like that fairly common? Especially in a year like this one where a bunch of guys who shouldn't be in the AHL are?

TSNBobMcKenzie: NYI claim Keith Aucoin from TOR.

There goes some of the Marlies' offence.

Well, Marlies will be hit hard - not just Keith Aucoin going to Long Island, but no Kadri, no Frattin, no Gardiner, most porbably no Frazer or Holzer or Kostka. It is opprtunity for Scott, McKegg, D?AMigo.
