Media...

Wow! is this intresting or what. I remember the coach walking into a press confrence a while back, and making the comment, where is everyone. If we had lost this place would be full. and as I have noticed on this site, since we have been winning its very Quiet. I guess the out spoken fans, and media, are the ones who love misery. ;D

What this site needs is for every one of us to get two or three friends involved and bring a lot of new blood and new ideas and comments as I have noticed a lot of long time posters are gone or not that involved anymore. We used to have all sorts of updates from Carlton the Bear and others, and we knew what our prospects and Marlies were doing. Now there is nothing about either. I enjoyed the updates on our prospects very much.

Anybody know what happened to James Cybulski?  I noticed Dave Naylor is taking over his time slot on TSN 1050 radio.

Believe he announced he's covering baseball now for tsn1050. Said he's always wanted to do it

He just tweeted out that he left TSN

James Cybulski ‏@JamesCybulski

Thanks for the kind notes the last week. I have decided to leave TSN to focus on family & for an incredible opportunity. Stay tuned. Cheers

Hmm maybe it was somebody else. I heard one of the morning guys say they were changing roles.

Just flipped through this thread.

I am not a big fan of Healy. His "only telling the truth" on Leaf broadcasts is similar to other media members who prefer to focus on the negative - it causes a stir and a lot of chatter (this is probably also why Greg Brady still has a job).
There are plenty of people out there who thrive on the negativity.

Good. Never liked him at all...his whole show for that matter - minus the guests.

He'll probably end up at Sportsnet. They could use some reporters/anchors with some cred. Jamie Thomas? Ryan Leslie? Are you kidding me?

I like Hughson. He quickly IDs puck carriers, who's with him, and who is checking him. Bob Cole rarely has a clue who has the puck other than saying the name of the team.

Hughson anticipates the play well too.

I don't like his tone as much as Cole's though. Bob has a bit of a Foster Hewitt thing going on that's kinda cool. Real Nasally like the frequencies of an old AM radio.

Healy knows the game and the players well enough, and I don't mind him for a bit of colour...but he could never be a lead commentator in a million years.

So I start to read Damian Cox's article today and I stop at this:

Damian Cox said:
Mike Komisarek and John-Michael Liles, to meet, are both friendly and courteous fellows. In this age of Oscar Pistorius and beyond, we dare not go further than that, although if requested, testimonials would be easily acquired on behalf of both men.

Really?  He brings in the story of the Olympic athlete now accused of murder into his Leaf article for what exactly?

I think he's making the point, and I've heard a ton of media people make the same point recently, that they should stop writing up an athlete's character based on the often incomplete pictures they get while writing a story. So he's just saying that while Liles and Komi seem like nice guys he doesn't really know them.

It's an aside, though. A pretty harmless comment that rings true these days.

There were a million other ways for him to make his point without making that reference.  Geez.

He doesn't though.  I find him making many mistakes that could easily be verified before he spouts off about it.  I'll try next time to write some down if I can.

Healy is aggravating with a severe chip on his shoulder. I'd take Pie Maguire before him and that's saying a lot!

Yeah I thought it was a bit tasteless especially with it in the news right now.

He writes for a newspaper. Referencing things that are in the news is, you know, the job.

Sure, but this news has absolutely nothing to do with the Leafs, Liles or Komisarek or the gist of the article, other than "they're athletes like Pistorius".
