Men's Olympic hockey

I miss the Leafs, let's cancel this Olympic tournament and get back to the NHL.

Nah, last winter Olympics produced potentially one of the best hockey games in history.  I'm quite fine pausing the NHL for a couple of weeks to watch this.

Which means that failing to beat Finland in regulation may have potentially cost Canada what would have been a much more favourable semifinals opponent: a potential rematch against Finland versus an almost certain match against the United States.

I'm still a bit salty about that.

Eh, that was a thing in Vancouver too, where people said that if Canada had a better record in the round robin they wouldn't have gotten Russia in the QF's.

Ultimately, I don't think it matters much. You've got to beat everyone eventually.

Absolutely, but when the games are getting close to being 50/50 outcomes, rationally you should always want the easiest path to the Finals.

Sure, but considering that the likeliest semifinal opponents were going to be one of Russia, Sweden or the US I don't think there's much difference there regardless.

Latvia up 2-0 on Switzerland already.

Great start. I would assume Canada would rather face Latvia rather than Hiller and the Swiss.

Wow. Huge surprise. The Swiss have only scored twice in their first three games, so I don't really hold out any hope that they will score two today.

The Ted Nolan effect.  ;D

Lose all your games until they actually mean something? :)

Nailed it.

Slovaks making a game of it. Hossa with his 2nd in a row, jimmy-on-the-spot for that big juicy rebound.

Last I saw Latvia was leading 2-1 on the Swiss.

The Czechs are certainly getting a free pass at waterskiing behind every Slovak player right now.
