After the latest two signing, barring any more moves, it leaves just under 10M for Marner.

Who would they move if Marner gets 11? Seems like Hyman would be the only option. Unless they're trying to move Ceci, but I doubt that.

Marner won't get 11. But Hyman and Dermott starting on LTIR gives them space, no?
To start, but also keep in mind they have 23 on the roster right now before signing Marner. They will cut at least 2 guys from the roster now, so add another 1.4 to the cap minimum. They are also allowed to go over by 10% during the summer.

Haven't looked but from memory the Leafs have signed 15 players ( ;)) to play on the 4th line and they can bury anything
under 900k I believe so scratch some to the Marlies and you'd be ok.

I expect they want to keep a 23 man roster, or at least 22. For road trips anyway.

I still expect Marner to sign for 10.6 at least. If only because if I were an NHL GM, I would be offer sheeting Marner at 10.5 and risking 2 firsts, a second and a third. Now maybe Marner doesn't want to sign an offer sheet, but I have to imagine there is one team at least willing to sign him for 10.5. We all know Montreal will offer 8.5.

But I think that's why the Montreal thing was so weird. If some team out there wanted to give Marner a 5 year/10.5 aav deal and Marner wanted to sign it with them then A) it probably would have happened already and B) the Leafs would almost certainly match. Because the Leafs would almost certainly match that offer, teams won't make it.

kinda seems like the leafs decided they couldnt wait for marner to sign and now that they?ve filled out their roster, they will be offering what?s left....

(sure they can still trade a guy but they seem to be defining their offer pretty clearly)

The interesting thing this time around is the contracts are basically set in stone now. Previously there was a bit of wiggle room to fight over, but it's like here it is, this is what we've earmarked for you and you're the last hold out. We can't sign you for more than what we have so you either sign and play or hold out for more which we can't offer, which means you don't play this year.

I would think someone would try, at least to put the team in a position where they have to make a roster move, but I agree they would have by now. It's surprising to me. Makes me think Marner also had no intention of ever signing an offer sheet. Using it as leverage is a different thing.

That means the Leafs and Marner are now going to have a staredown? 9 million vs 10 milllion? Give or take.

Paul and Darren will be loading capfriendly and suggesting to Dubas who should be traded so Mitch can get $11.5

But doing something just to put the squeeze on another team with no real expectation of landing the player seems exactly like the sort of thing that's a no go in the old boys network. Especially when you probably have to deal with the ramifications yourself at some point.

Interdasting. Would it me a middle-of-the-road, mushy-middle type team offering a max deal to have an impact player? I think the money would have to be gonzo to consider leaving this contender to go to that type of team. A top team AND top money? Who out there would be able to consider it...

... if that doesn't happen, sign the fair and generous deal and finish this Mitch.

$10.16-million x 5 years

Are they willing to miss camp and take the Nylander route just to get a little closer to Auston's number? Have a crappy year? Handicap the team? I think they are. They're comparable is that Mitch is as good as Auston. It was Willy himself who picked up the phone with 40 minutes left, not his dad or agent. Mitch does the same?

Maybe. But it's a worse case scenario. An attempt at Mitch for 10.5 is legit if the Leafs have 9 in space. Then worse case is you make life tough for Dubas. And after Montreal's silly attempt...

If Montreal's attempt is the comparable I suspect Dubas would quickly match the $9.5 offer.

He'll match higher than that, but then who is out?

My post was a joke based on Montreal's poor offer sheet.

Leafs have room at 10.5.  Over it and the decision will have to be made. Dermott and Hyman will be on LTIR and will stay on it until they find room if thats the case.
