Official Armchair GM Thread 2014-2015 Leafs

I'd say this is a player the Leafs should try and buy low on - but I'm not sure if he'd even be able to play with the Leafs either right now.  If he was a C maybe.

Intriguing though because he's 23 and has 145 points in his last 183 AHL games.

Seems like a Holland/Panik type pick-up. But with Panik not even able to crack the line-up when we're healthy there's definitely no room for Morin.

Yeah I did feel like a bit of a morin for even bringing it up.

Something tells me you set this all up just to make that pun.

Estimated cap for next year via Lebrun is mid to low 70's provided the Canadian dollar doesn't keep plummeting. Provides a little bit of wiggle room for next year, though a bigger contract may still need to be moved out.

The problem is that, as oil prices drop, so does the value of our dollar. With oil prices expected to continue to fall . . .

Vast majority of the revenues for this season are already in the bank (i.e. season tickets, TV deal) so hopefully there won't be drastic changes.

Sure, but the value of the Canadian dollar still has an impact on what those revenues are worth at the end of the season, regardless of when they were received.

To me it is absolutely insane that their is no accomodation for the cap in regards to the Loonie.
What happens if it goes back to 60cents against the greenback, not saying that is going to happen but it certainly doesnt way in favour of our Canadian teams.

Playing around with the idea of trading off Lupul, Franson and Reimer, how could you fill in the roster holes next year with a 73 mil cap. The tarde Kardi crowd will have fun with it... early days, I know.

So would you trade Kessel for Ovechkin straight up?

Personally no, but the stats don't back me up.

I love numbers....so I updated them from the 'Kessel Trade Value' thread

So far this year Ovechkin is +7 and Kessel is -5.

If this keeps up, there better be a fire sale that includes

Lupul: if he's movable
Franson:
Santorelli: Like him but he may be worth more in a trade
Polak
Robidas
Reimer

There may not be a market for the last 3.

I'd definitely see what the market is on Bozak too.

Of the list I think I would be inclined to keep Polak.  I like how physical he plays and the Leafs certainly need more of that in front of their own net.  I was liking the idea of keeping Franson, but I think the boat has sailed on him in terms of an affordable contract.  I'm curious to see what they could get for him at the trade deadline - quite possible a first round pick.

With Franson, would he be free (with the Leafs permission) to negotiate with a potential trade partner regarding a new contract prior to moving him?  That would certainly up his value.

I don't mind the guy TBH but if there were a team willing to offer something decent I'd make him available. I've liked what I've seen from Holzer better this season.

Based on recent deadlines, a 1st for Franson should be a starting point.

How do you play 2 seasons (150games) without executing 1 hit?  For this reason alone I would take ovie over Kessel. In fact Kessel career hits count is less than a half season of ovechkins.
Edit. I take that back a bit. As ovies hits are posted either. But still I prefer a player with more than one dimension even if it's a really good dimension

Clarkson for Mike Richards? Is that worth a look?

Does Nonis have incriminating footage of their GM?

If yes, then maybe.

They're rumoured to be looking to buy him out. They both have 5 years left and Clarkson is 500K cheaper.

They have similar numbers (lack thereof). TOR may be more interested in a C.

Just throwing it out there.
