That's hilarious. What a ride for Filatov so far eh.

You know your career is taking a decided downwards trajectory when you're Russian and can't get a contract in the KHL.

tsn_wally: Filatov still in Russia. Has been assigned to Binghamton. He isn't likely to report and will be suspended by the #Sens.

tsn_wally: Suspending Filatov gets his contract and roster spot off the #Sens books.  He had not signed a contract with CSKA

SP what do you think?

Colin Greening - Jason Spezza - Daniel Alfredsson
Nick Foligno - Kyle Turris - Peter Regin

99% sure both Kuba & Gonchar are back in on Tuesday - Lee comes back out I guess?

Jared Cowen - Erik Karlsson
Chris Phillips - Segei Gonchar
Filip Kuba - Matt Carkner

Apparently it's because the Russian team wants to sign him to a multi-year deal while he just wants a contract 'til the end of this season.

If anything, it shows that he is determined to play in the NHL.  Good on him and potentially good for the Sens.

Not a bad lineup. When Michalek comes back and if Turris becomes a legitimate top 6 player, that could be pretty dangerous.

I was wondering what the hold-up was, that makes sense.

I want to give Alfredsson to Turris.  That dude *has* to be successful, or I just might crack up.

And that defense looks a lot better right now than it did about a month ago.

Where's the 2nd line?

....

j/k  ;) :)

Andy007's pretty close to how I feel

I still would have preferred to keep Rundblad and shop for a 2nd line center. Too many over 30 on that D. But I could be easily proven wrong if Turris lives up to his potential.

Yeah...it's weird eh we almost look pretty solid. I have no idea where we're going to finish up, playoffs / outside playoffs, but I think it's clear we're not a bad enough to finish in the bottom 5 of the league. Are we "mini" going for it here?

Don't say that so loudly.  Murray is liable to trade Silfverberg for Souray or something.

With regards to Turris, he may well flourish in a bigger role in Ottawa, though I think it's more likely he'll produce more of the same.

Looking at his career numbers, he's got major defensive issues (was -22 in 137 games on a pretty solid defensive club) and hasn't had a year of very good production in quite some time. I thought he would've had a year where he was a PPG'er in the AHL, but was surprised that he hadn't.

Like I said, he's obviously going to be given a fair amount of opportunity to succeed, but given that he's slightly undersized (underweight more than height), has defensive issues, and by many accounts is relatively easy to knock off the puck, he's more likely to struggle in the next 1-2 years than have big success.

With the pressure of 2nd line center duties (and expectations from fans), it may not turn out too pretty.

Determined Sens GM gets his man

Bryan Murray didn?t want to let this one get away.

The Senators GM has been in pursuit of a second-line centre since the end of last season and when Kyle Turris went to the NHL?s marketplace as a restricted free agent in the summer, Murray called Phoenix GM Don Maloney.

While Maloney told Murray he had an interest in some of the players on the club?s roster, the Coyotes insisted Turris wasn?t going to go anywhere until he signed a contract, reported to Phoenix and suited up for a handful of games.

Though Murray circled back regularly through September and October to get a deal done, the Coyotes weren?t willing to talk until Turris, 22, signed a two-year contract on Nov. 22 and finally reported to get his season under way.

?We talked for a number of (months). We heard there was a possibility that they we might be moving him so we talked a number of times to management in Phoenix,? said Murray.

This was not an easy deal to make. Maloney said 10 teams were originally interested and he narrowed it to three. The other two were possibly Vancouver and Columbus.

The Coyotes had been insisting on getting a first-round pick in next year?s draft. The Senators thought they were out because they weren?t willing to surrender that selection, even though the draft isn?t considered deep.

Once the Senators offered up Rundblad, the Coyotes were able to make the deal.

The acquisition of Turris will give coach Paul MacLean options with his top two lines. Suddenly, the Senators have depth in the middle.

?I?m really excited about it,? said MacLean. ?What Kyle Turris brings is that he can really skate and shoot the puck. He brings a dimension of speed and it really solidifies that second-line centre position that we?ve been looking to fill.

?I?ve seen him play for (three) years. When I was in Detroit, we saw Phoenix four times a year. I thought last year in the playoffs, he was one of the better players. He plays the game the way it?s played in the NHL now: He can really skate, he has a great work ethic and he has great skills with the puck and without the puck. We?re looking forward to him making us a better team.?

Acquiring Turris will end the club?s pursuit of Columbus Blue Jackets centre Derick Brassard. He has been high on Murray?s list as well, but the Senators didn?t want to pick up his $3.2-million cap hit for the next two seasons.

The Gatineau native could have been a nice fit. However, the Senators had to move salary if they were going to get something done. The Jackets don?t want to take any money in return for Brassard and even move him for a draft pick.

Turris, meanwhile, isn?t intimidated by playing in a Canadian market.

?When I heard I was traded to Ottawa, I was extremely excited to be a Senator and to be in a Canadian market, and all the fun that?s going to come with that,? said Turris.

?I talked to coach MacLean (Saturday) morning and he said he?s excited to have me, and I told him how excited I was to be a Senator and that I?m looking forward to getting there Monday, joining the team at practice and getting to work.?

Experts say the Senators made a good deal.

?I don?t think they spent a ton to get him,? said Rogers Sportsnet analyst Nick Kypreos. ?He was averaging 12 minutes in Phoenix and he never wanted to go back. The only reason he signed was to make sure he didn?t lose the season with that Dec. 1st deadline looming.?

Murray believes he came out a winner.

UPDATE 1:41 PM)- According to Dmitry Chesnokov on Twitter, there has been a resolution on the Nikita Filatov issue.  The Sens will receive the paper work on his KHL contract in the near future and Filatov is expected to play his first game over there on December 20th.

David Rundblad is not Tuukka Rask, and Kyle Turris is not Andrew Raycroft.

This just won't end..

(UPDATE 8:54 AM)- Another twist in the Filatov saga.  Filatov's agent has asked the CSKA team to work out a trade if they can't get the paperwork on a new contract by midnight.  If they do not either sign or trade Filatov, he plans to return to Ottawa.
