Official Ottawa Senators Thread

I thought Bishop looked pretty good in the loss.  Made a number of big saves in the third.

He did yeah - both goalies played well Miller was lights out in the 2nd. I'm hoping Anderson might get back in this week but we'll see I geuss. We're off till Wednesday now - home & home with the Habs Wed / Fri then the Leafs are in town next Saturday.

I'm liking the Klink

CBC was apparently saying next year's cap will be in the $69-$72 million range.  Not sure how CBA negotiations will affect it this summer, but we'll see.

For now, our lineup looks something like this;

Michalek - Spezza - Greening
Butler - Turris - Alfredsson
Condra - Smith - Neil

Phillips - Gonchar
Cowen

Anderson
Bishop

Working with a $69 million cap, that puts us at about $36.5 million, $32.5 million beneath the cap, and $16.5 million below the cap floor.  That's aided by the fact that Emery, Cheechoo, and Alfredsson's buyouts come off the books.

UFAs
Jesse Winchester
Zenon Konopka
Filip Kuba
Matt Gilroy
Matt Carkner
Alex Auld
Mark Parrish
Tim Conboy
Francis Lessard
Corey Locke
Mike McKenna

RFAs
Erik Karlsson
Nick Foligno
Peter Regin
Jim O'Brien
Kaspars Daugavins
Rob Klinkhammer
Nikita Filatov
Stephane Da Costa
Eric Gryba
Pat Cannone
Craig Schira

Resigning our free agents probably won't even bring us to the cap floor, especially since there's only a handful I have any interest in bringing back, outside some minor leaguers for Bingo that won't really affect Ottawa.

- Erik Karlsson will get paid a crap ton.
- Foligno, O'Brien, Daugavins, Klinkhammer and Da Costa will probably be extended.  I just hope they aren't all one way deals.
- Gryba and Schira will get signed too, but I don't see them in Ottawa any time soon.
- What do we do with Peter Regin?  Give him a qualifying offer or just cut him loose?
- We're short on NHL defensemen next season.  Including Karlsson, we've only got 4.  If I had to guess, I'd say Kuba and Carkner get 1 year deals, plus hopefully a good UFA signing.  I think we should break the bank for Suter if he hits UFA.
- I really don't care what happens with Konopka, Winchester and Gilroy.  I'm unimpressed with Gilroy, but wouldn't be upset if he was brought back as a 6/7.  Konopka and Winchester can try their luck on the free agent market.  We've got too many players with much more upside than they have competing for roster spots.

We've also got Silfverberg, Zibanejad and maybe Stone who look NHL ready and will be competing for a spot.  Same problem we had last year, too many bodies, not enough roster spots up front.  Wonder if we can get anything back for Foligno?

Unfortunately, outside Suter, there's a whole lotta nuthin available on the free agent market in terms of blueliners.  Kubina?  Gill?  Jackman?  Grossman would be good, but you gotta think he's being re-signed.

There's not much at forward either, although I'd like another top 6 scorer.  Semin can go fuck himself.  Doan or Parise would be a dream, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.  Apart from them, it's a bunch of old guys and has-beens.

Whaddya think, Ferret?

Nice post SP...I think you got it covered but to answer your question again I think Murray will / should qualify Regin. He's still young & cheap with upside / potential to me its a no brainer.

FWIW I have heard that Zibanejad, Silverberg, & Wiercioch are all "NHL ready" and locks for the team next year with Stone, Peumpel, & Prince having a good shot as well.

Managed to catch the Habs/Leafs game last Sat. and Bruins/Leafs the following Tues. at Bert's. Even with the Sens game also on Tues, Bert was good enough to show the Leafs game too. Funny, there were probably as many Leaf fans there as there were Sens fans. - Moved to the north part of the island after that so we didn't go back and lost connection (and interest) to all things sports related after that.  Anyway, great bar, great atmosphere, decent enough food but somehow, they were the only place on the island who DID NOT have flying fish... Rather disappointing. Killer daiquiris but I had to send back what they tried to pass off as a margarita. Apparently Melynk came in on Tues (missed him.) All the Bert's SWAG had the Sens logo on it so I passed. Would have got a "Hockey Night in Barbados" shirt but it only came in red.  :-\ Anyway, just the greatest place on earth to watch hockey.  :)

Watching a Sens game there is on my bucket list - nice one!

Ottawas other 9 forwards:

Colin Greening:  1 goal in last 18 games

Nick Foligno:  1 goal last 24 games

Erik Condra:  0 goals last 27 games

Kyle Turris:  1 goal last 14 games.  Empty Netter

Zack Smith:  1 goal last 25 games.  Was a weak wrister over Nabokov

Kaspars Daugavins:  1 goal last 42 games

Zenon Kenopka:  0 goals in 26 games

Bobby Butler:  1 goal in 19 games

Chris Neil:  2 goals in 15 games.

Essentially 8 goals in 210 games.  That is absurd.

Half-season seats in the 100's?  Or that's what I found on the Team 1200 website...

I wish.  I would have taken in a few, sold a few and given a bunch away as gifts and to clients.  Would have been great lol

Sort of anti-climatic but we won ice time at Scotiabank place, locker room stuff and whatever else.  I'll find out when I go to make arrangements.  Nothing huge, but kinda neat.
