Fisher still resonates - the 1st rounder we got from Nashville for him was used to draft Stefan Noesen who was part of the Bobby Ryan deal...

Don't look now but the Sens are holding a playoff spot again...

They're basing their personnel decisions on performances from 4 years ago? No Yandle either?

Or they're basing their international hockey decisions on the most recent and relevant international hockey.

Statistically Ryan was a +1 better than Kessel in 2010

Patches Pacioretty over Ryan? I think the Yandle snub is just as brutal. In the end a rested Bobby Ryan is better for the Sens but Poille has really left himself vulnerable to criticism if the 'States don't have a successful Olympics.

Kessel's got a pretty good track record of international hockey. Especially on the big ice.

Kessel should absolutely be on their team. He's one dimensional but he's one of the purest goal scorers in the league. As is Ryan. Max Pacioretty isn't exactly a gazelle on skates but he somehow made the team. Blake Wheeler is another one.

You should read the article quoted in the Canadian Olympic roster thread. It sounds as though Ryan is perceived as being detrimental in terms of speed, being one dimensional and intensity. He doesn't seem to have had many fans among the selection committee.

Yeah I checked it out - it only makes me question just how much time they've actually spent watching him play. Oh well - it's good for me as a Canadian and as a Sens fan I guess - it's impossible to suffer a "It's somewhere between my legs" injury at the Olympics if you don't go to the Olympics.

Well, considering that the group included Brian Burke, who drafted Ryan, and guys like Dean Lombardi who runs a team in the division Ryan played in and, you know, the fact that these are a professional group of well respected hockey men putting together an olympic roster I'm going to go ahead and venture a guess that they watched Ryan pretty regularly.

They talk about speed and the bigger ice surface yet leave Yandle off the roster...I think politics might have played into some of the decision making but that isn't that shocking either. If I was a Yank that blueline would make me very concerned.
