7. Toronto - 72 pts - 8 games left
6. Tampa Bay - 71 pts - 10 games left
5. NYI - 71 pts - 9 games left
4. Minnesota - 70 pts - 10 games left
3. Montreal - 69 pts - 8 games left
2. Edmonton - 66 pts - 9 games left
1. Columbus - 53 pts - 9 games left

I was going to do a deeper look at who each team plays but I have too much work on the go right now. Maybe later.....

Tampa and the Islanders play each other on Saturday.  Hope for a 3 pointer that night.

The Leafs have a lot of control over where they finish too:
They play Carolina, Tampa and Montreal
That and two games against the Sabres where Buffalo should be playing for their playoff lives, games against the Rangers and Devils should make a good record difficult.

That's the spirit :D

After seeing my hopes ripped to shreds for a playoff spot, I fear
getting emotionally involved in this now...I really really want
the tank and down to 3rd but fool me once, fool me 3-4 times, and
eventually I begin to start to be a little pessimistic and skeptical.

Minnesota plays Calgary tonight. A win would draw them even in the standings with Toronto and they would still have a game in hand. We need TB, NYI and MIN to win a few.

Looking ahead, the Leafs need to drop their final game of the year against the Habs. It would be very unprofitable to win.

Tonight is a big Tank night.

Beyond the Minnesota game, there is the chance that we could fall behind Tampa if the Lightning beat the Oilers. In short, if the Wild and the Bolts both win, we move up two draft spots.

I would be much worried about that. Producing 14 shots per game is encouraging indicator that the Leafs are fairly determined to do their own part. ;D

Regardless of the outcome each team will still have a game in hand on the Leafs.

I heard the term "Tank Nation" used twice on the radio yesterday. You would think that the players must be hearing this as well. Tomorrow night in NJ and then back home for NYR on Saturday.

Tampa beats Edmonton in a shootout. Bolts pull ahead of the Leafs, Oilers pull to within 5.

Minnesota ties Calgary late in the 3rd...and they win in the shootout.

Leafs climb into the Lottery for the #1 pick

If we stick at #5, would you trade the #5 pick, our second this year and 1st next year for the #1 overall selection?

I think it depends on who the Leafs would want, is it Yakupov, Grigorenko or do they want Galchenyuk and hope he drops a couple of spots due to the injury?

I'd probably do the above deal, then try and move one of the bodies on the roster to get a 1st back for next years draft.

Minnesota and TB win.

Leafs now in 5th spot.  :)
1st pick overall a possibility! Going down harder then the friggin Hindenburg... very impressive.

There's no catching Columbus... ;)

Could in theory win the draft lottery though.  And if there is a franchise with the luck to do it, it is the Leafs.

I have no idea what "luck" your talking about? I feel rather unlucky being a Leaf fan.

I had assumed no one would believe we have any luck and it could only be taken as sarcastic.  Although it is still possible.

This type of talk scares me... there still a long way off and need to continue to build and utilize all picks.

Call me Don Cherry but I'm not overly excited about building a team around a European. We need some friggin "ONTARY-ARY-Os!" (sarcasm)

Oi!

If the Leafs finish with a lottery pick all I can hope is that there's some truth that either Edmonton or Columbus are interested in switching spots to that end without costing an arm and a leg, hoping for luck? grrrrrrrr...

It certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, especially if they want a certain player and do one of those 'switch picks with the understanding our guy isn't going to be taken' things.

If the scouts genuinely believe they are drafting the next Malkin/Ovechkin, can't miss franchise type, I don't see a lot to be scared of, I doubt it would cost as much as I suggested anyway.
