I wonder what we could give to Edmonton to entice them to swap picks with us.  They need defense, not forwards.

I was thinking about this - wonder if Edmonton would do a Schenn + 5th overall for Paajarvi + 3rd overall type deal?  Leafs would probably need to add, but ideally not too much.

Both guys have struggled for a couple seasons, and both speak (somewhat) to organizational need for the receiving team.

Well the Oilers pick is a number 2 pick first off and besides unless the Leafs value Grigorenko a great deal more than Galchenyuk I don't see the Leafs moving up.  I think you need to bank on the Oil and Isles taking Dman ahead of you and if that doesn't happen oh well, it isn't worth giving up an asset to move up because I don't feel there is much of a difference between the two forwards I have mentioned.

Ah, right.  For some reason I had the Oilers in the 3 spot in my mind.  I'd still swap picks with them if I could, though - I just don't think Galchenyuk will be there at 5 or 6.  I don't really want Grigorenko at all, tbh - too many questions for a team that can't afford to have them.  I think he slips a bit, but maybe Montreal picks him.

There's some talk right now about Sebastien Collberg as a good player as well. Its funny when  you compare him to Forsberg though: Forsberg played very poorly at the U20 with 1pt while Collberg had 7pts, however Collberg went all season in the SEL without one point while Forsberg had 17.

That bad WJC showing by Forsberg doesn't sit well with me. I wonder how he compares to other players in the SEL though. Maybe Mika Zibanejad?

A lot of what if's, but the biggest what if is....do you want to ice a winning team next year,  then trade your draft choices for quality players who can contribute immeditately.....build your team overtime with draft choices and bide more time not making the playoffs....Example:  Oilers have been draft rich last few years and still at the bottom of the heap.....Schenn was our last top 5 draft choice and we are still hoping that with  power skating lessons, shooting lessons, strength coaching, etc he might turn into a # 3-4 D-man.....We need a # goaltender and 2-3 power forwards and you are not going to get that by hanging onto draft choices...combine drafts and trading existing players ( we can all name 4-5) and let's put a winning and contending team on the ice...we have had a enough, let's just forget about who gets picked by who and talk about who we want to trade for in a draft/player combo....
