We've all been hard on Orr this season, deservedly so too, but I thought he resembled a NHL player tonight.

That's the best I can do.

He was not an obvious detriment tonight.

Phaneuf's been on the ice for 1 EV goal against in the past 8 games.

He calmed down and he is really composed and paying attention to details. When playing around 24min per game he is a stud. Offence coming from Franson also helps as he is not trying to do everything.

Actually he, Ashton and JayMac had two or three pretty impressive offensive zone shifts creating pressure and forcing Fleury to freeze the puck

I haven't really seen him have a bad game this season yet.

Regardless of the lack of MoTM selections he gets, he's been by far the best defenseman on a team that plays the majority of the minutes in their own zone. He's getting it done, and then some this year. Sad thing is is he may be playing himself off the team with the contract he can command now.

I don't feel overly worried about losing him for some reason. I actually think he is still going to sign for around 6 million a season, but for longer term in Toronto. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Nonis gets it done early.

I think Don Cherry highlighted a nice shift by the line.  What I saw from that clip is Mac and Ashton doing a nice job battling for the puck and cycling and Orr wondering around in the offensive zone without the quickness or anticipation to get to the puck and do anything at all.

With Pittsburgh, Boston, and Detroit all losing Toronto goes back to 1st in the Eastern conference.

Considering that they've managed that while not having played their A game for a full 60 minutes yet . . . if they can get that going, they might actually be able stay up in the upper echelon all season.

Regardless of what happens to end the game, this was easily the best game that the Leafs have played all season. Most physical too.

I missed the 2nd period but I see they were outshot 16-4.

Does that happen to other teams?  It seems like the leafs have at least one or two periods per game where they are outshot 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 every game ...

Yeah, it just makes a lot of sense for Dion to re-sign.

I'm sure he earns a hell of a lot aside from his salary, in terms of the endorsements that come from being captain of the Maple Leafs.

Kessel and JVR were both flying tonight.  It looked to me like Kadri's speed and creativity opened up space for both of them and the result was far less time in the Leafs' end than that line usually plays. Bozak, barring the odd good shift, is much more of a passenger.

I can't see Dion going anywhere.  The Leafs want him, he wants to stay and he is playing pretty well at the moment.  There is no one behind him that can do the things he does.
I didnt see a bad player on the ice in the 3rd period which was nice for a change.

You'd think he could demand more because of the exposure he gets. I mean, Red Bull must be paying him a lot, he wears that hat in the dressing room quite a bit for interviews or scrums.

I'm not sure what the opportunities are there vs other teams, but he'll get more exposure than a lot of other players.
