I like Andersen but I think it was time to move on. If Freddie is here, there is no tandem. He will play 55 plus games. It's time to see what Jack can do.Dappleganger said:Ugh... shoulda just kept Andersen.

Mrazek will be the 1A but I expect Keefe to run with the hot goalie. Leafs couldn't afford to just get a backup goalie.Peter D. said:Are we really expecting Campbell to be anointed the starter and run as such for the season? I can't imagine they are paying Mrazek that much for a backup role, or even 1B.

CarltonTheBear said:Mrazek's $3.8mil was a teeny-tiny bit higher than what I would have pegged him at ($3.5mil) but I thought at the end of the day it would have been impossible to really judge that too harshly before seeing what the other UFA goalies got. Andersen of course got $4.5mil. Bernier just got a $4.125mil AAV from NJ for 2 years, so so far I think we're doing ok. Will be curious to see what Ullmark gets.

When Kevin Woodley joined the podcast a few weeks ago, he pointed out that when a team acquires a goalie, it should make sure that the style of play aligns with the goaltender in order to create an environment for success. I think the Leafs can at least rest easy on this one having hired the former Hurricanes assistant coach to run their defense and penalty kill ? the two factors that would impact a goalie the most.
