Phil Kessel

I would agree that Kessel looks quite a bit different than in seasons gone by - all positive changes that people note above. But it is not even just a change from last season, it is a change from pre-season too. It is as though they dropped the puck on opening night and *bam* out came a new Kessel.

I know he won't stay on pace for 100 goals and 170 points, but I do hope that he plays the overall game consistently whether scoring is following or not.

Actually it's 196pts. :D

Add in a few lucky bounces and he could hit 213!  :o

I don't think it is a coincidence that Kessel has looked much more consistently dangerous with Lupul on his line and playing well.

It seems they are always talking on the bench, I love that.

He still made some very nice plays, and I didn't think he was completely shut down against Boston (other than in a score sheet sense).  His passing/vision has looked good to start.

But there will be games like that, especially with that manbearpig out there.

How many goals will he snipe tonight? seems like he scores alot vs the Scabs. and it'll be interesting to see how a speedy Left handed passer in Lombardi sets up Kessel tonight  ;D

Ho-hum another goal and assist tonight.

Still leading the league in goals 8 and points 14

Closest competition is Daniel Sedin with 12pts and a game in hand, and I think he's got a much better cast of players around him.

If Kessel ends up with 45 goals and 40 assists - which given his production in first few games seems feasible - I will be more than happy.

They either mentioned it during the broadcast, or I read it online, but I liked that Kessel has been asking to be put on the PK.  Even if he's not the best option right now, I like that he wants to do it and hopefully that means he has been working on that part of his game, too.  At the very least, it's not the sign of a disinterested or lazy player, imo.

I'm guessing Kessel won't go last.

I'm guessing this is super lame. There should be hockey sticks in the middle, one pile for forwards one pile for D. Sticks are mixed up and tossed on either side one by one. That's the shinny way, and imo it's a lot more fair and a lot more noble than the whole "haha, loser got picked last" routine you'll always have when picking teams.

I didn't care for that at all. I could go along with a compromise and let them have their media event picking the top 9, top 4 and starter - something like that. The rest are picked randomly. But nailing the last guy like they did to Phil kind of stunk. He's certainly showing them how smart they were this year.

Hey, it apparently lit a fire under Kessels butt. Besides, being the last All-Star taken really isn't all that big of an insult. I suspect about 600 or so NHLers would've been damn happy to suffer that particular indignity.

I don't think anyone really minded. These are all superstar professional athletes getting together for a meaningless exhibition game and I don't think any of them are going to be too deeply wounded by being picked last. Kessel certainly seemed to take it in good humour.
