Phil Kessel

Yeah but Selanne is on pace for 192 points and he's old enough to be Kessel's great grandfather so Kessel is obviously a bust.

I am going to leave Kessel alone from now on. Some people really like him and enjoy his talent on the ice and others see something different. No one is convincing anyone on the other side of anything.

But I will look forward to the day when he is traded away to some other team that sees what I cannot see.

He might extend his stay here now that Lupul has signed.

Kessel is a great talent, true sniper, there is absolutely no doubt about that. The problem of having Kessel is that his potential is somewhat wasted unless the Leafs get a real play-making centre.
I am not coparing Kessel to Brett Hull, but he serves as an excellent example. In his years in St Louis he had Adam Oates and later on Craig Janney, in Dallas he had Mike Modano and in Detroit Steve Y. and Sergei Fedorov. Tyler Bozak is not in that league and god forbid he is a fine young gentleman but he will never be.

If only Sundin were still here...
I like Bozak and everything but how he became considered a decent #1 center by anyone is beyond me... he got the job purely based on lack of qualified personnel. When he came into the league he'd have been lucky to get a job as a 3/4.

I'm hoping Corey Perry can be had in the off season, or a trade for Getzlaf. Also hoping an alternate dimension Doug Gilmour born 1989 appears from nowhere as well, but I feel like my prior scenarios are more likely, if only slightly.

If you cannot see then you can simply check the stats sheet from last year. He outscored a number of players that for some reason we clamour for like Corey Perry. But hey, grass is greener.

I agree, Bender.  I mean, what's there to dispute here?  Kessel is an elite scoring winger.  He's an offensive game changer and seems to be getting better with each passing year (as you'd expect from someone his age).  He's not Doug Gilmour, Wendle Clark, or Mats Sundin, but I'm not sure how anyone can say they don't "see" Kessel's talent.

If someone doesn't want to think or admit something they can blind themselves to reality.

Two questions:

1. Who said that they do not see Kessel's talent?

2. Would you trade Kessel straight up for Perry? Forget for the moment that Perry will be a UFA in a few months. On a simple player to player comparison would you trade Kessel straight up for Perry?

Can't I have both Kessel and Perry on my team?  Why must I choose?????  :-*

Sorry, I fixed that.  Please see my quote from above.

Cox advocating the Leafs should part with Kessel and move on:

http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/article/1320739--maple-leafs-must-keep-first-pick-deal-phil-kessel-cox

I think his logic is kind of flawed with his main point really about (paraphrasing) Nonis ridding the team of the result of this bad trade that Burke made and comparing Kessel to what Vernon Wells was to the Jays.

His point about Kessel's value is good, although if he doesn't snap the scoring slump soon (he will) it could be hurt a bit.

I don't know what to think... I can see points on both sides of the argument.  The most central point to that argument being that Kessel isn't a prototypical Carlyle type player and long-term I can see some challenges there.

Cox is an a**hole. 5 games into the season he's ready to tank the season and deal the star player? Moron.
