I'm fine with what Clarkson did, frankly if I'm the coach I'd send the entire bench over the boards and I walk over to the Sabres bench and break Rolston's face, pulling that stuff with Scott was unacceptable.

See that's the thing. Nobody should be able to touch Kessel like that. It's completely insane the way everything went down. Who on the ice was supposed to fight that horrible excuse for a hockey player?

He'll answer the bell later. Orr and McLaren have long memories.

But this Ron Rolston guy is a joke. Sending Scott out there like that was uncalled for. And what kind of goon is Scott going after a star player like that? Total bush league. That kind of trash is just attracted to Buffalo I guess.

Exactly.  We don't have enough enforcers.  I'd like to see Orr centering JVR and Kessel.

Which, you know, is a pretty good argument for why players like Scott shouldn't have a place in the league. Get the shaved apes out of the league.

Clarkson is an idiot.  Ashton has been more effective so far anyway so it would be fitting for him to take his spot while Clarkson is serving suspension.

Then Scott should get 10 for going after Kessel for the Devane fight.

Or, you know, if points back to Devane having done something stupid and unnecessary, and provides a pretty solid argument for why fighting (or, at the very least, enforcers) shouldn't be a part of the league. Devane did something stupid. Scott responded in the same way players have unfortunately done for a long time. Also, Carlyle, having last change, probably should have thought better than to put Kessel out with Scott right after an incident like that. Scott's not blameless here, but, that doesn't in any way excuse players coming off the bench to attack other players.

I'll make my prediction right now. People are going to be crapping all over Clarkson during the regular season, doing stuff like tonight, probably not scoring 30 goals. We will listen to the paid too much, blah blah stuff...all season.
Then, when the playoffs comes the same people will be saying what a warrior, we need more guys like that.
Clarkson did exactly what the Sabres did not do when Miller got run by Lucic. He stood up and said nobody is doing that to our star player and getting away with it. Regardless, of whether it was from the bench or not. The Sabres have never been the same team since being perceived as gutless.
Yes, it's unfortunate Clarkson will sit 10 games, but every Leaf player will stand a little stronger knowing there are guys like Clarkson on their side.

Pretty sure Tropp started the fight with Devane.

Doesn't mean Devane had to engage, or get involved with what lead to Tropp wanting to fight him. It was unnecessary and stupid, and, well, look at what resulted.

Or, Tropp could have just not tried to fight him.

Great game! We beat them everywhere...Our goalie is tougher then their goalie and Kessel even beat a guy up..Scott can't fight the entire rest of the line and Clarkson...wuss...also we scored more then they did.

Man im looking at our future players and im really happy to be a Leafs fan right now

It is, and I totally agree with you! This shouldn't be in the league. However, this was here and now. Who was supposed to fight Scott based on the line that was out there? I'm not sure if the refs would've been able to intervene!

*Edit I retract what I said. I just watched the replay again and it looked like Scott got swarmed. I'm not sure  Clarkson made too much of a difference.

Or, you know Devane could have recognized Tropp wasn't anywhere near his weight class and skated away - just like many other players in the league have done in the past. I mean, not engaging a guy that's almost 40 lbs lighter than you in an unnecessary and useless fight feels like pretty simple and basic stuff to me.

Buffalo had to get Scott when Lucic ran over Miller that time with NO repercussions.  The next few divisional games Lucic, Thornton, Chara, etc all manhandled the Buffalo big guys.

January 31, 2013, just over 2 minutes into the 1st game of the season between the 2 teams, Scott squared off with Thornton and gave Thornton a lingering concussion.  Boston tip toed the rest of the year with Buffalo.

Well, why was that line out there? That was a pretty stupid decision by Carlyle. If the Scott's of the league are on the ice, you shouldn't put guys like Kessel out there.

I don't understand why Carlyle put Kessel on the ice to line up against Scott right after that happened. Bad decision.

I think it was a pretty clear message that Carlyle wanted his team to play hockey.

If this is the value that Clarkson brings -- more when inspiring guys from the press box than when actually playing -- he will have been a terrible signing.

Or, Tropp could have not acted like the drunk guy picking fights with sober bouncers twice their size on a Friday night.
