Leaky Freddy

It's Hunwick. He's dunwick.

Meh, Hunwick is Hunwick, He's going to make those mistakes, that's what you get for 1.2 mill I guess, on the other hand, Anderson needs to stop those, he's making big bucks to do so.

It's Andersen's second game coming back from injury, so I give him a bit more leash than that.

Shaw victimized Hunwick on both his goals, gaining position readily.

So you trade for a goalie from a team in California and sign him to a multi-year contract extension.

Repeat.

As I have said before, we could lose for a lot less money with Bernier.

They call him "Steady Freddy" in Anaheim, the downside of that is that if he has a bad night, it doesn't even really look like he is trying to improve/cares about the play.

Bernier and Reimer often seemed to get emotional in the net, which is of course not what you want from a goalie, but seeing Andersen just glide around back there playing percentage fundamentals, is really strikingly different.

My snark above notwithstanding, I like that he plays a quiet game in net.  But your point is well taken.

Leafs lose in OT in a tight contest, Jays win wild card game in extras in a tight contest. Jays blow Texas out of the water, Leafs drop 6-1 to the Habs. Fair trade this time of year.

Gardiner - Carrick better be permanent. They played the most minutes and managed to only draw a -1 between the two of them in a 6 goal game.

Babcock said, post game, that only two players got passing grades from him last night: Hyman and Martin. Hyman, who is very good at bulling the puck to around the back of the net, but has trouble identifying open teammates at the goal mouth because he plays with his head down, and Martin who skates like an Etch-a-Sketch.

I'm liking Gauthier's game. He can really truck a puck from his end to grind away at the other. He should be joining the Leafs next season.

Andersen looking good after an early wobble, Matthews with a great shot and goal on the PP

Good to see Matthews score against one of the best in Carey Price.  Great confidence booster that was for him.

Anderson, well, this certainly wasn't what the Leafs got him for.  The fact that he just returned from injury can excuse him for this performance.

Against a full Habs lineup, this young team showed the jitters playing at the tough Bell Centre.  Ugly loss alright, but what's even worse is that no one showed up to at least compete.

I fell asleep pretty early in the 2nd period so can't speak for what happened after that, but I saw glimpses of what I would hope to see from him as the 1st went on.

That was a bit concerning, the team seemed a bit overawed or something. Hopefully they can get that out of their system.

It was kinda, sorta, not really our game night roster.

The Hunwick-Zaitsev should never happen again and JVR not playing is always huge to the Leafs lack of top six scoring.

I can totally see why Babs wants Matthews to start in a 3C role and Nylander on his wing with a healthy Bozak.

It was rough viewing, probably a decent little reality check, for the media more than most.

I'd rather they do this now when the gamesc don't matter.

I liked Matthews post-game he seemed genuinely embarrassed by it, it was the first time I've seen him interviewed where I get the impression he will start to impose his personality on the room sooner rather than later.

Way down the line, he is definitely in the leadership conversation.

Way down the line meaning next season like McDavid?
