R1G1: Leafs @ Bruins - May 1st, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

The Leafs looked like they may have been surprised by the intensity of playoff hockey tonight.

The Bruins may turn out to be the first, or second best team in the east this year, but really, when Nonis decided not to make any major moves at the deadline and go with the youth (as many had hoped he would), should we be surprised by this kind of result? (at least after game one)

Experience is not overrated in the Stanley Cup playoffs. This is what we have. They're the youngest team in the league. We should at least acknowledge this fact as fans.

Let's hope Carlyle can make the necessary adjustments for a win on Saturday!

GLG!!

That was about what I expected.

Unlike some people who think Game 3 is most critical, I think the first period of Game 2 will tell the story of whether the Leafs can be competitive in this series or not.

Ference being in or out is irrelevant to the outcome of the series.

And?

And nothing.

It just feels like it's something that leaf fans will focus on instead of the fact that they were totally outclassed and dominated tonight.

Missed most of the game with a sick wife and kid.  Saw bits and pieces, not sure about that dissalowed goal in the third, just wished someone would plant anyone into the ice who runs Reimer.

Is it really inexperience?  Not knowing what playoff intensity is like?  Or is it just a replay of many games the last few weeks, like for instance their 4-1 loss to a slumping Montreal when they got outshot 28-17?  Or a 5-2 loss to a bottom-of-the-barrel Tampa before that?

This is exactly how I feel as well Redleaf.

Leafs are the youngest team in the league going against an experienced and playoff hardened team that has won the Stanley Cup as a group.

I think it is a perfect way to measure the Leafs Stanley Cup readiness.

Go Leafs!!

Same, I'm not sure why it wasn't 5-1, looked like a good goal to me.

I was very disappointed in the lack of physicality after the game was out of reach. I was hoping for some reckless abandon after that.

They have to put this game behind them and focus on Saturday like it is a game 7 because it might as well be a game 7.

Going down 2-0 and having to win 4 of 5 against Boston just won't happen in this series.

Leafs got owned. Giveaways, losing almost every 50/50 battle for the puck, soft play in their own end. That was exactly the game most Leafs fans feared when they drew Boston in the first round.

Sadly, I don't see it getting much better.

Reimer was actually pretty good, other than the usual long high shot that handcuffed him. That's the worst thing, Reimer can't be expected to play much better than he did tonight.

Bozak was great on faceoffs, so there's that...

Colton Orr actually played well. He should be the one who stays in between him and McLaren. Get Frattin in there, I guess. But that won't mean much if Kessel and Lupul continue to be invisble and Kadri continues to help the Bruins more than Seguin did.

But, the Leafs are a young team with much to learn. They just better learn fast or this series is over in four.

i look forward to seeing what adjustments caryle makes for game two..that being said...i'm not exactly surprised that the leafs would have trouble in the first game of their first playoffs (for a majority of the team anyway)...so i don't think you need to remake the wheel or anything ...

also as a positive..their special teams play held up....obviously that's like the only thing that did...now they have until saturday to figure it out...

can still get the split

So Kostka played way too much, the fourth line played way too much and Reimer was terrible.  Years past, Belfour/Cujo gave us a chance to win.  Tonight Reimer did not.  He looked eerily like Lalime in days past for the Sens. Decent save percentage, ugly (and backbreaking) goals against.

Randy's got to wake up and figure out that running four lines is neutering our offensive game and killing the team. Stack a couple scoring lines, cut down Grabo's ice-time drastically (watching him getting ragdolled all over the place is tiresome) and maybe you'll at least be competitive out there.

I think Grabbo's looked better today than during the regular season

Grabo has looked great most the season but he is a lone wolf out there, nobody to help with his strength of moving the puck forward. Holy shit though, that man can take a hit.

Wow if only Kessel had so much positive bias.  Every time kessel rushes it up the ice and it doesn't result it a goal; the fault must lie in his line mates.

i don't think it's fair to hang any of this on reimer ...each goal wasn't a masterpiece ..but you could have found a good gimme goals in amongst his saves....

the leafs played way too much of the game in their end...just that many opportunities alone is going to cause problem...besides..the leafs are going to have to be able to score more than a goal a game if they want to win any of them

Grabovski did have a good game though ...thought he was one of the few leaves that actually deserved a goal

Why would it get better over a two day period, when they couldn't figure out in the regular season over a 3 week period?

This is the same garbage that has plagued this team for awhile now.

Garbage passing, Garbage breakouts, Garbage transition, Garbage board-play, Garbage defense.

I said this before the game even started, and people insulted me. Our offence got us to 5th, and our offence is going to disappear in the playoffs. Why? Because, before the playoffs, Kadri cooled right down, Lupul cooled down, Kulemin wasn't producing etc. It was all Kessel and the first line pretty much, and that line will be effectively neutered against the Bruins.

Special Teams won't make a lick of difference in this series. Boston is going to continue to dominate us 5on5 and won't need to score PP goals. Unless we can have a PP operating at close to 50% and draw a bunch of penalties, this is 4 and done and with ease.

Randy Carlyle making moronic decisions isn't helping things, either.

I like your passion (that unites us all) , and I agree with everything, but I'm going to wait until after Game 2 to see how a young, inexperienced team responds.
