R1G2: Leafs @ Bruins - May 4th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

All I can add is another voice to say that was a great effort by this team .. and one that I can't say I expected. I was hoping for some luck, a bad call in their favor, a fluke goal or a bounce. But they decided the game without much of that. They played very well, pretty smart and tough (44 hits vs the Bruins 35 scored by a Bruins scorer) against a smart, physical team that has traditionally given them fits. I'm a little proud of them tonight as this win seems special and will be probably notable in their growth as a team.

This is what you hope for.  For them to go into a building and against a team that has given them fits, and then to win a game like this where they totally deserved to ... well, it gives them a taste of what it takes.

So many good things tonight.  I really feared and darn near expected a completely different game and result.  Other than a couple of hiccups, Gardiner was pretty solid.  Frattin was clearly motivated and involved, I knew he could play like that, and I'm glad he's gotten the opportunity.  I was fearing I'd be noticing the wrong Hamilton tonight, and it wasn't the case.  Didn't notice too much from Dougie, and all that I did notice of Ryan's was positive.  O'Byrne was barely noticed much at all, which was as much as I'd have hoped for.  Bozak had a rough night on the draw, but for a guy that's probably still hurt, I've been really impressed with his play.  Reimer is giving the Leafs exactly what they need, just really solid goaltending.  I'd figured they'd need Reimer to steal this game, and through the team's effort, he didn't have to be the #1 star, even though he was good enough to be.  (Although his play behind the net... :o )

Good to see Chara off his game a little.  Leafs got killed on faceoffs. :(  They only needed McClement for 11:45 because they basically were never shorthanded.  To me, that's huge, playing that physical as a team but not taking penalties for it.  Shorthanded situations are such a double whammy, the risk of giving up a goal and the wearing down of defenders regardless of giving up a goal or not.  Keep up the physical play, boys, and stay out of the box.

And it pretty much goes without saying that Kessel and Lupul were huge tonight, as they were needed to be.  Game 3's gonna be fun.  No letting up!

Liked the game. Great that they put that kid on defense.
Changed the bugger up. Had the Bruin's in fits the speed of the Leafs is their strength.

1-1 And back to the ACC 20,000 Maniacs place!

Okay sit back and have another...

anyone recall the huge Phaneuf hit?  I was wondering if it was reviewable.

That was my immediate impression when it happened, although on viewing again, it looks more inconclusive than anything.  For sure it's not an elbow.  The only question is whether the principle point of contact is the head.  I doubt anything comes of it.

The Canadian Olympic team had the loonie at centre ice, the Leafs have their lucky charm right in the name of Boston's arena, the TD (Toronto Dominion) Garden.  I'm going to keep calling it the Toronto Dominion Garden, I like the ring of that.  It was certainly the Leafs' dominion tonight.

saw the game at wegz...awesome atmosphere there....but the boys showed up. they manned up today. so happy for them. to go into boston after the shellacking of game 1, and to win 4-2...so so awesome! great game!

Will be interesting to see what the bruins come back with now that they've realized that the leafs can actually beat them.  I'm taking tonight as a sign that this team does have some leadership.  Two huge goals from Lupul tonight.  When he's in one piece..he's a gamechanger

Was at work during the whole game tonight, and saw a few people peering into their Iphones and Tablets blasting the game in stony silence. I was too nervous to ask the score. This is wonderful to come home to, believe me.

Just watched game in 6. Yes, this is one game and I don't know how this series is going to turn out. Obviously the Leafs are against the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions after making the playoffs for the first time in forever, and went in here not playing all that well. Still, there is so much against this team in this series.

But WOW. How great it is to see these guys play like they did tonight. And in Boston. HUGE win. JR, an American, scored the goal that ended it back then. Today, Phil Kessel and JVR, both Americans, each scored a goal for the Leafs first playoff win since 2004. Telling  8) .

And Lupul! 2 goals! Wow. So glad Kessel got an even strength goal after the sh*t kicking he got in the press the last few days.

The Leafs have gotten into a habit lately of winning 1 and loosing 2. I hope they break that and at least take this series to 7 games. Who knows. I hope they give it a good fight. They certainly did tonight and it was wonderful.

Someone posted on TML Nation that a Bruins fan allegedly knocked out a Leafs fan after the game. I also saw a screencap of a hateful tweet by some Boston part-time "writer"/fan wishing Kessel illness and violence to put it mildly. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=514221418635627&set=pb.173755352682237.-2207520000.1367732153.&type=3&theater

Classy. All I can say is I hope Leaf fans never pull this stuff. Ever.

Hey, we already 'own' them!  :)

Great effort.  Bravo Leafs.  To see Kessel take command of some scoring was vindicating.  Not to Bruins fans.  Too, too bad!!

Wow thats effin low, wishing cancer on someone who already had cancer at such a young age and still came back and played his heart out and got 11 pts for them in the playoffs... You stay classy Beantown. If you can spell classy that is.

Aside from the win, particularly Kessel's game winner, seeing Orr turf Chara was my favourite bit of business.

I owe aplogy to Carlyle, I often questioned his decisions, but the way he did get ready his team for game 2 deserves ton of respect. He knew what he was doing, players responded exactelly as he evisioned.
On a related note I am also liking the cohesivness of the the Leafs. They seem to be a real team, not just bunch of 24 professionals. They care for each other, they fight for each other, they are not selfish (to my liking they are passing too much, just shoot the puck) which is very encouraging and coaching personel deserves respect for that too.
Fascinting night, so many great performances, so many players elevated their game, very memorable game.
Not only the Bruins are beatable, the Leafs can outmuscle them, outscore them, outsmart them. Even Phil Kessel can score on them. Things considered impossible months ago. They need to duplicate this monster effort, but right now they know it is possible. Huge building block.

x2!!!

I agree with EVERYTHING including the Carlyle points and the unselfishness which led me to hoping they would shoot the puck a bit more as well.  :)

Seeing that makes me miss TO at this time of year. If we make it to the next round i might have to go on a trip to see a game or at least come to TO and have a blast like they all seemed to be having.

To me that's what being from TO is all about. Nothing brings this city together like the Leafs and hockey.

I could watch that video all day.
