All this arguing about depth has some validity, but the reason the Leaf depth sucks is because they are paying 4 forwards over half the salary cap. You only do that if those 4 players are good enough to offset the shortcomings elsewhere in the lineup. Are they? Regular season warriors but big playoff game no-shows.

Other teams get good price performance out of their bottom six paying guys similar to what the Leafs are. The cap excuse is played out and lazy. The guys the Leafs brought in haven’t been good enough. That’s it.

Right so I'm betting that changes now. Marner is gone and they'll spread the money out.
It's all intertwined and related. Those 4 forwards take up so much cap space (plus Rielly) that they have to skimp everywhere else. Plus they've drafted poorly and traded prospects and picks and that leaves us where we are today. It's not lazy...it's the truth.
BTW, the Leaf depth _has_ contributed to some degree - Domi and Pacioretty in particular. But Matthews and Marner have 1 goal in the past 3 games...games 5-6-7. Again.
I'm just watching to see who (if anyone) has a pulse at this point.

I'm done with Rielly BUT who the hell plaus the puck on our blueline. Tanev can stay. McCabe's hasn't been great this postseason but he can stay. Benoit as the 6th guy is fine but his warts with the puck are big.
Carlo has been dogshit. OEL has been forgettable.
We need guys who can make better decisions to get the luck moving up the ice or we need to have a better transition where our forwards aren't constantly cheating up the ice (I mean do that for the 3rd at least and try and cheat for offense)
The bottom 6. I could see them all go. Domi has been a mixed bag. Holmberg can't be back if Chief is coach...his love affair is too big. McMann is a pumpkin. Lorentz is all try and no do. Laughton has been an ok player but holy hell he was not worth a 1st AND prospect. Kampf is forgettable. Jarnkrok is forgettable. None of these guys need to be back next year.
