Red Wings @ Maple Leafs - Apr. 17th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

He has no accuracy with his shot, or at least, not the accuracy he's shown in the past. He's had several chances on the power play recently that would have been automatic goals that he shoot wide or hits the goalie.

I think the book was out on the Keefe Leafs...play them tight and they don't know how to score against that. This year they had to learn how to play and score while playing low event hockey. They certainly looked frustrated at times, and thankfully the goaltending held up.

It's been slowly coming back of late, but it's not there yet, that's for sure. Looks closer to who he was in the first few years of his career than what we've come to expect more recently - which is still an upgrade on what he looked like for most of the season.

Have the Leafs ever had goaltending like this?

Stolarz - .926 - 2.14
Woll - .909 - 2.72

Also to be noted, I think if you'd asked me last October if the Leafs would have only had to start 3rd stringer goalies 8 games this season, I would have bet a lot of money against that. I was really nervous with going with 2 goalies that had significant injury histories.
You probably have to go back to Johnny Bower or Jacques Plante to get Leafs starting goaltender numbers like that.

Matt Murray AHL Marlies 21GP .934 1.72 GAA (best numbers in the AHL). So even there, with injuries, Treliving has some credible depth to cover for injuries beyond Hildeby

Yeah getting 41 (well 42) games out of Woll and 34 games out of Stolarz is probably about as best case scenario as you can get. And for that to happen with both goaltenders being injured this year is even more impressive. I don't think I have seen a big change in stylistic play from Woll this year. If someone can figure out how to not let him get beat by floaters from the blue line he probably wins a Vezina.

Not a duo this good. Maybe Potvin/Rhodes. Potvin/Puppa was very impressive too but that didn’t last too long.

For me the best goalie I’ve ever seen play for the leafs was Belfour. But his backups were terrible.

In a close series, this, I'm afraid, will be our downfall.

My level of optimism hasn't changed. We might get somewhere if Recent Stolarz and Recent Woll take us on a Price-like run. But without full Matthews? The team isn't built to take that.

It is hard to compare some years. Bower-Sawchuk put up great numbers to start expansion - but were expansion related so I wouldn't consider them.

This is probably a fair list of top performances since 1960, 2.30GAA or less
but ignore #2 which was the first year of expansion.
But it doesn't consider the backup

I don't think there is an undeserving name on the list and it helps to place how well Stolarz did this season.

Man. The Leafs look terrible. Ottawa is going to win in 3 if they put in this effort (I'm sure Sportsnet will play this up)
