Reimer Injury

After reading this, not good news:

Tor Star: Reimer?s mom starting to worry about son?s head injury

?I asked him on the weekend, ?When do you think you?ll be back?? He said, ?I have no idea.? And now he?s been out so long that, by the time he?s ready to go back, he?s going to need to do a lot of conditioning and he?s going to have to do a lot of practicing. It?s not like, ?Today I feel fine. Let me take the net.? I?m sure it will be a slow road back,? Marlene Reimer said. ?We?re worried, for sure. But really, with a concussion, it?s so much a wait-and-see. One day he?ll say he hasn?t had the headaches and you think, ?Oh, yes. Maybe he?ll be back this weekend.? The next day he says, if he?s going on a 1 to 10 scale (where 10 is perfect health), he?ll say it was a 3. So you wait for the next day.?

(article has more details)

From that, I don't think James will be back anytime soon.  :(

If the Leafs are saying its Whiplash, I believe them, like I have mentioned before I was in a car accident last January which resulted in whiplash, I had headaches and stiffness in my neck for a few weeks, and after some treatment it went away.

This past August I was in another car accident and my whiplash came back and I still have it, some mornings I wake up and my neck is in a lot of pain, if I try to work out at all since the accident, it doesn't last too long as a headache follows soon, if I havent woken up with a headache. It was 3 months ago since my last accident and nothing has changed in my recovery, I wouldn't be surprised to see Reimer out for the season, if not at least until January.

if this is the case the leafs have to make a trade for goaltending.  They cannot get to the playoffs with a 4.00 gaa  goalie.

Give Rynnas a shot. What can it hurt? You never know he might shine like when they called up James and he took over the #1.

Here's the difference:
2.59 GAA .920 SV%
3.50 GAA .884 SV%

Yes, that's right.  Jussi Rynnas has AHL stats that are barely better than Gustavsson's NHL stats and you want to call him up?  The AHL Marlies are also a better team than the NHL Leafs. (The first number is what Reimer put up in the AHL that was forcing the team to give him a look when Giguere kept getting injured)

Mark in Da Park?

When Reimer comes back all healthy and such I think it will be important for someone (Dion, Orr, Brown etc.) to put a hurting on the first person that gets too close to Reimer. Send a message that interfering with our goalie will cost you more than 2 minutes in the box.

And I am not opposed to anyone wanting to lay the smack down on Gionta yet just to be clear.  ;)

Geez oh petes, still injured?

This can't go on any longer.  The leafs are embarrassing themselves yet again when it comes to goaltending.  Finally get a good one, he gets injured and now again, we have no goalie.

We should get a reliable back up and let Gus go, the guy isn't about to figure it out anytime soon.

Gionta is so small any legal hit will probably involve his head anyways.  :P

This situation is progressively getting worse and worse.  I really hope for a speedy recovery.  Hopefully he's not away too long and loses whatever momentum he started building last year.

Yup, we finally felt we solved out goaltending issue and now this freak injury exposes the Leafs.  Guess Burke should have signed a vet backup in the offseason.  Gustavsson isn't inspiring a lot of confidence at the moment and Scrivens needs more time in the AHL.

The good news from the Leafs perspective is we banked a lot of points early.  So if and when Reimer gets back and healthy, and they start to play consistently good hockey again, it shouldn't be as tough a fight for the 8th spot.  *knocks on wood*

Well the longer it is the worse it is. Generally a mild case of whiplash doesn't take two weeks to subside. He's teeter tottering in his recovery, which is very worrisome.
