Rielly to miss 8 weeks with fractured foot

Prepare yourselves for:
Dermott - Holl
Sandin - Barrie
Marincin - Ceci

Or Dermott - Barrie
Marincin - Holl
Sandin - Ceci

Barring an additional injury, Sandin will be burning the ELC year AND exceeding 40 games played this season towards free agency eligibility.

Might as well see what Liljegren and Kivihalme are capable of as well.
Haha, Ben Harpur.

Exciting.  Now we get a chance to see whether Rielly is a positive or a negative for the D corps.  I love in-season experiments like this.  Fun!

What's next?  "Andersen to miss a minimum of 4-6 months, Leafs have recalled Kasimir Kaskisuo"

If ever there was a time for Dermott to shine and earn himself a really nice pay raise when he's negotiating his next contract this summer, now is the time.

There are 36 games left.  Sandin has played 6.  So if Sandin misses 3 of the remaining 36, he won't exceed that 40-game mark.  Both Muzzin and Reilly should be back with 3 games left in the regular season (Muzzin back way before that).  It doesn't seem like a given that Sandin is going to play every game (except 3) for the rest of the season does it?

Technically, yes. But after you get an extended look at Sandin maybe even in your top-4 for a good stretch, he's not going back down.

Oog.  Well, this is what I wanted, but with Ceci substracted, not Rielly.

We can still subtract Ceci (who has been serviceable).

After 2 minutes' reflection, this is just as well.  Sandin and Liljegren are the future of the backend.  Bring them both up and let them take their lumps.  They might as well learn on the job earlier in the supposed "window" than later. If we miss the playoffs this season, so be it.  Enough injuries to key players have happened so it insulates Keefe and Dubas from all but unreasonable criticism.

And should, while he's showing himself as such.  I hope Dubas has the fortitude to move him on if he can.

I wonder if Rielly's foot was the thing bothering him before last night ? the injury he's been dealing with ? and an otherwise innocuous contact last night broke it.  Did anyone see the play where he was injured?  I missed the game myself.

I guess this doesn't surprise me given how the season has unfolded in terms of injuries.

On the positive side, maybe whatever other injury Rielly has been dealing with will get a chance to heal up in time for the playoffs. On the negative side, playoffs? Hmmm...

At this point I'd be in favor of just bringing up both Sandin and Lily and giving them both a good look (Marincin can sub in and out as needed). They're going to be playing major roles next season anyway, might as well start the process.

He blocked a shot, was on the ice for a bit, hobbled to the bench, went down the tunnel, and came back a few minutes later.  He seemed fine the rest of the game.  But probably after the adrenaline wore off and he got out of his boot did the severity get the best of him.
