Round 2: Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

i thought the habs should have won that game..not that i wanted them to..but that goal with one second left must be backbreaking will be hard for them to recover in time for tomorrow night's game

I am not the Montreal hater most leaf fans are...but I am not rooting for them in this series.. Bishop has been embellishing but it's unreal how many times the habs players are crashing crease, bumping into him etc. It appears not to be working because Bishop has been mint...

Don't think the Habs stand a chance now.  I sense s-w-e-e-p is imminent.

No matter how good the Habs play, somehow 'luck' favourite the Lightning.

Evidently, someone wants see see shootouts in the playoffs...

...I'll be here all night.

It's Florida. He was probably felt threatened by PK Subban's accurate wrist shot.

...I'm on after louis.

As someone who's long thought that the strong Stanley Cup ratings the league's had post-lockout were just a lucky confluence of a bunch of teams in big markets with regional fanbases being good all at the same time, I'm kind of openly rooting now for an Anaheim/Tampa finals.

Montreal 6  Tampa Bay 2  Tampa Bay leads series 3 games to 1.

Talk about total team effort.  That's exactly what the Montreal Canadiens displayed enroute to a very convincing 6-2 dumping of the Tampa Bay Lightniing, thus staving off elimination.

With the momentum now shifting in their favour, the Habs hope to carry that over on Saturday night for Game 5 on home ice.

But first, this.  The Habs figured out Tampa's Ben Bishop as they took him out to sea in the first fourteen minutes of the first period, scoring three straight goals that eventually saw Bishop replaced by the Lightning's backup netminder
Vasilievsky, who by the way, wasn't any better.  By then, the score rang up as 5-0 for Montreal.  The Lightning eventually got on the scoreboard, but by then it was futile.

It's worth noting that the six goals Montreal scored were more than their total of the first three games combined.  That should tell you how dominant the Habs were in Game 4, getting goals from the likes of Max Pacioretty, Markov, Prust (yes, him!), Gallagher, etc.  Gallagher's snapshot from in close was practically an exclamation mark on the night.

As for Tampa Bay, Steve Stamkos summed it up best:

"We stole one last game, probably did not deserve to win, definitely did not deserve it tonight, and we got what was coming," Stamkos said.

The Habs played it smart and it showed.  However, no Canadian-based team has ever come back from from an 0-3 deficit in a playoff series to win it all.  Les  Habitants are determined to change history.

Game 5 goes Saturday in Montreal at 7:30PM.

I'm certain many a Leaf fan has read of this historical comeback.

In fact, here's more details:

But, outside of the Stanley Cup Final, no Canadian-based team has ever come back from a playoff series down from an 0-3 deficit.

Well, considering it's only happened 4 times in NHL history, and only 5 times in any North American professional sports league (and only 6 times worldwide), is that really a fact that need mentioning? Heck, in the history of the 7 game playoff series in professional sports, there have only been 14 instances where the team trailing 3-0 even managed to force a 7th game, never mind win the series (though, 9 of those 14 were in the NHL, and an additional one was in the KHL).

So outside of the time it did happen, it didn't happen?

Since that time, no Canadian-based team has since emulated that feat (either in a Stanley Cup final or a playoff series round).

Not that this is news, but Cherry is nuts.  That didn't hit anybody's stick.

Although he's right that Bobby Orr was good at hockey.
