Stanley Cup Final Chicago (1) vs Boston (5)

Final score:  Chicago 4  Boston 3 (Triple OT)  Chicago leads series 1-0 games.

Triple overtime in what became the fifth longest game in Stanley Cup history?  Yep. You bet.  And it ended in an unfanciful way, what many term as "ugly" goals -- an Andrew Shaw deflection on a David Bolland deflection on a Michel Rozsival shot, ahem, that sent the Chicago faithful into utter jubilation not to mention relief.

For the Bruins?  They had their opportunities on two power plays, one in each overtime, to try and put the game away, but all they kept encountering were posts clanking and Corey Crawford's acrobatics.  Of course, this was all before losing the lead in regulation time as the 'Hawks found a way to come-from-behind on a 2-1 deficit.  Tough loss, all right.

The officiating was once again in question as hockey observers noticed the officials made several "missed calls", most notably on the extra attacker (the too many men on the ice)
especially during regulation play.  However, in the overtimes, for some reason unbeknownst to 'Hawks fans, Chicago took not one but two too many men on the ice penalties.  Strange.

Anyways, it's going to be somewhat interesting to see if Boston can put aside this deflating loss in time for Game 2 Saturday night.  For the Bruins, it's top performers played admirably as usual -- Lucic, Krejci, Chara, Bergeron, Horton.  But for Chicago, it wasn't their star players who were the keys to the victory, but guys with names like Bolland, Shaw, Saad, Oduya..  That said, both teams will be looking to upgrade in the offensive and defensive department.  Add in the mix an assortment of goaltending lessons by both Rask and Crawford, and we shall have yet another exciting game coming up.  Can hardly wait.

For all the type and bytes wasted on how Phil Kessel was so intimidated
and beaten by Chara, I hope those that adhered to that claptrap have taken notice of what Chara has done in Rounds 2 and 3.

Apparently Chara can actually defend well against other players in the NHL as well.

And Phil outscored every other "superstar" that Z shut down....

True.  And Kessel has still scored more in these playoffs than Seguin.

I didn't watch the game but its sounds like Ference was hitting people. I want him on the Leafs.

I paid pretty close attention to him last night.  He looked good for the most part, although the Oduya goal going off his foot was very unfortunate...

He's injured again.  I'd be steering clear.

The Sports Business Journal reports that NHL playoff ratings are on a high (for the U.S.)...

Austin Karp @AustinKarp
Better numbers for NBC/NBCSN NHL Conf. Finals. After lackluster QFs (NBCSN was down 39%), playoffs rebounded. On pace for 2nd best in 17yrs

Overtime yet again. This time with Daniel Paille of the Bruins to score the winner. Some are making a big deal about Tyler Seguin setting up the goal.  ::)

Well, it IS the finals so yes it is a big deal.  :)

Final score:  Boston 2  Chicago 1  (OT)  Series tied at one game apiece.

Well, Chicago followers, complain what you will, but a whistle blown is a whistle blown.  Marian Hossa would surely have been credited with a goal if the referee hadn't blown the whistle before the puck crossed the line.  The 'Hawks robbed?  Maybe, maybe not.  (If that goal had counted, Chicago would have had a 2-0 lead on the Bruins in the first period).

Can't blame a whistle for the 'Hawks loss.  It came at Chicago's expense, especially the first Boston goal on a Patrick Sharp lost puck error.  True that Chicago had outshot Boston 19-3 in that first period, up with a 1-0 lead.  Bruins fans will have Tukka Rask to thank for that, as Rask prevented an even higher potential score in the first period onslaught.

Daniel Paille's quick wrist shot sailed past Corey Crawford's shoulder into the net, on a passout from Tyler Seguin, in the overtime, to win it for Boston.  Truth is, until that overtime (thoroughly dominated by the Bruins), from the second period onward, the Bruins outplayed the 'Hawks for most of the game.

For the Bruins, going home to Beantown with the series tied gives them momentum to continue in their winning ways.
For Chicago, going to the visitor's rink will require fewer errors and a better game plan, if they are to counter Boston's, in more ways than one.

Honestly, with the exception of the first period with several Chicago chances, it was pretty boring affair. Black Hawks were robbed, that 2-0 goal should have counted.

It probably should have.  The referee obviously didn't see the puck cross the line.  No goal light went on, whistle blown, no goal. No video review for these situations.

Of course, Chicago allowed Boston to dominate after that first period and such was the ensuing result.
