I haven't once used the word luck to describe it. I've said it's largely meaningless in an individual sense but a reflection of the team's overall 5 on 5 play.

And so, yes, by watching the games I see exactly why Kessel's +/- is what it is. The entire team sucks and has given up.

One more...

"Entire team sucks and has given up".

Really?

Kessel -30
Bozak -28
JVR -27

versus

Kadri -5
Holland -1
Komarov +4
Booth -2

Entire team sucks...yes. Entire team has given up...no. About 1/4 of it has.

Since January 1st:
Buffalo 5-22-3
Edmonton 10-17-4
Phoenix 7-21-4
Toronto 6-23-3
Carolina 15-9-4
Columbus 14-14-1

I can't think of another Leafs season where the first and second half were such  opposites of each other... It's just so strange, and comical at the same time.

Hasn't it been like that for the last 3 years, with the 18-wheeler/cliff stuff? It happened earlier this season, I think is the difference.

Giving Kessel a Wendy's Baconator for every goal he scored was bound to catch up with them.

You're right, but the contrast has been even more pronounced this year.

I too enjoy calling professional athletes fat.

Seriously, how is this still acceptable to do?  Grow up at some point.

Seriously, I question what his life is like when he thinks that's funny or acceptable.

Some professional athletes are pretty fat. Oh wait, those are baseball players.

It was never this bad. They'd go on some 8-9 game losing streak then tread around .500 for a while, giving the illusion of hope.

It's pretty common even from certain sportswriters.  Like, everyone (even on this forum) were behind initiatives like the "Let's Talk" mental health thing - but some people still think it's acceptable to basically make fun of someone's weight (or his shyness or...) as if because he's a millionaire or something it's okay.  I bet he doesn't care - but that's not the point.  Hearing stuff like that about yourself can have negative mental impacts.

Fair enough. I guess it's good they got it out of the way early this year? To be honest I haven't watched too many games in the last year an a half. At least not the whole way through. I never felt there was much hope haha.

Jeebus, it's been noted by players that he seems to be able to eat anything he wants without affecting him, lighten up Francis.

Guys we might get the fourth pick.

I haven't decided if I'm excited about that or not. Outside of McDavid and Eichel who we aren't getting, is anyone else projecting to be a top line player/potential superstar?

Yeah, it's also been noted that he is a freak athlete who is always amongst the strongest and fittest.

But nobody mentions that.

Start reading a few of the scouting reports if you can. I suspect there are as many as 10 franchise players in this draft and probably 4 or 5 superstar types.

It's probably the best draft since 2003 which is regarded as the strongest ever.

I haven't been able to laugh much this time. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously.

Their ability to play roughly .500+ hockey was established over enough games to make it roughly credible. Many thought they had that ability and they kind of proved it. To sink to .230 hockey over the last 35 or so games, with the lack of effort they've displayed, that's just a sign of them not caring. As a fan, I have a hard time watching that and accepting it.

Why should I care about watching a team of players that don't care about how they play?

I have and I've seen others here mention it too.
