Guys we might get the fourth pick.

I haven't decided if I'm excited about that or not. Outside of McDavid and Eichel who we aren't getting, is anyone else projecting to be a top line player/potential superstar?

Start reading a few of the scouting reports if you can. I suspect there are as many as 10 franchise players in this draft and probably 4 or 5 superstar types.

It's probably the best draft since 2003 which is regarded as the strongest ever.

Excitement....rising...

Jeebus, it's been noted by players that he seems to be able to eat anything he wants without affecting him, lighten up Francis.

Yeah, it's also been noted that he is a freak athlete who is always amongst the strongest and fittest.

But nobody mentions that.

I have and I've seen others here mention it too.

You're right, for every 25 knuckle draggers that call him a fat slob, 1 or 2 will try to argue the opposite.

Everybody's definition of a "franchise player" is a little different but the only players that I would say that fit that billing this year are the top-3 picks. There's still a lot of guys who have legit top line potential though, a lot more than other years.

Yep commenting about the team's poor 2nd half play by saying giving Kessel hamburgers would catch up to them was definitely a clever play on the fact Kessel is naturally gifted athletically.

Can the Leafs win anything of significance if their pudgy designated goal scorer happily sports multiple chins in a league dominated by gluten-free, goji-berry-favouring fitness nuts?

Just one of the lovely comments about him printed in actual media.  Multiply by 1000 for twitter & internet.  It's ridiculous.

Regardless of media rhetoric, moon didn't call him fat. There's little doubt that Kessel's play has been a negative factor for the Leafs recently.

Maybe if he trained harder during the summer and ate better during the season, he'd be able to make even more use of those tremendous natural athletic abilities.

Hey lets give the heat on our best pure sniper since Mogliny a rest. I have been to several Loaf games in the last few years and in my opinion (at least in the games I was at), I watch Kessel bust his ass up and done the ice all night, in both ends.
Lets give him a "get out of Jail" card for next season and pair him with a good centre and see 50 goals, not 30. We gave up to much to get Phil, so lets get him a Centre to play with and see JVR and him pile ups some points.
All this Kessel bashing is getting real boring.

Be honest, you have zero knowledge of how hard he works in the summer nor of his nutritional plan.

I might be willing to give him a get out of jail card if he worked a little harder.  But for the Tank's sake, I hope he keeps it up.  Carolina wins today and now the Leafs are back in 4th position.

On a side note, Buffalo's goal differential now stands at -101!!!  Now THAT is how you do it!  Well done, Sabres.  Well done!

Some people are asking if the Leafs could net a franchise player picking at number four. Looking back at the 4th overall picks over the past 10-15 years, and none of them are of the superstar variety. I'm pretty sure they need to win the lottery to get a 'franchise' type player.

Not that I really think looking at players taken in previous years draft slots means much, but Seth Jones, Ryan Johansen, Alex Pietrangelo, and Niklas Backstrom are definitely of the superstar variety. Pretty sure we've all been saying the biggest weakness of this team is a lack of a legitimate number one centre or defencemen, and any one of those 4 players would immediately fill that role.

And at pick number 5, the list includes Scott Stevens, Rob Niedermayer, Jaromir Jagr and Carey Price.  Oh, and Phil Kessel.  ;)

This guys are star players, but none really qualify as true NHL superstars. A few may one day, but not yet, at least not in my mind. But then again there are really only a dozen or so players in the league today that qualify in my mind, as franchise type, superstar players.

Yeah. That's a better list of players. Maybe we should hope for the 5th pick? Lol.

Being upset that the team isn't going to get a future HHOF at number 4 is such a Leafs-fan thing to do.

It really is an excellent point. I'd much rather draft 1st than 4th now.

Guilty.  ;)

Lol. I'm leaning towards fifth myself.
