The Great Leafs Centennial Goaltending Debate

I'd imagine they'd want to have Ramo "conditioned" for a stint on the Marlies first to see how he is in-game, so I can see where it makes sense to roll Bibeau first at any rate for a bit.

Leafs play Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday this week.  Barring anything unforeseen happening to Andersen, our new backup gets his chance on Sunday.

Yep. But for his first opportunity, I think I'd prefer a goalie that has seen some in-game action already this season. Nod to Bibeau or a trade for backup now that we're in mid-season form, IMO.
Again you make some good points, well done Leafer

Thanks. Appreciated.  8)

So, to sum up:

-Enroth cleared waivers and was assigned to the Marlies
-Ramo signed a PTO with the Marlies
-Bibeau has been call-up to the NHL
-Babcock said that Andersen will play a lot for the next little bit

Pretty much.

Who knows if or when Enroth will ever see the crease again in a game this season.

Even for the Marlies.

Can he be sent to the Solar Bears, the ultimate humiliation or does Robidas have a hockey net on the Island?

I imagine it would be Glass that would be ECHL bound but stranger things have happened.

Bibeau was fine last night. Gave up 2 in the loss. Hopefully he can play the back-to-back's for the rest of the season.

Breakdown of Bibeau's debut: http://ingoalmag.com/news/breaking-bibeaus-debut/

I didn't see the game, so I can't comment specifically about this game, but this comment:
Bibeaus-feet-and-head.gif

Watch Bibeau?s feet and knees throughout this sequence. He frequently c-cuts then ?shimmies? with both feet when his edges are re-engaged. It looks like Bibeau is perhaps making micro-adjustments, but in most cases he?s simply shifting weight needlessly between feet. He didn?t suffer for this tonight, but such extra footwork can cause delays in movement that spell the difference between a stop and a goal.

A similar problem emerges when the puck is behind the net in the same sequence. Bibeau does a series of head shifts that involve the rotation of his whole body, even though the puck doesn?t change position significantly. His constant turning to look the other way multiplies the odds of Bibeau being caught in transition from one side to the other. This is something to look for in the future, especially against teams that apply a strong cycle game.

Is something to work on. In Marlies games last year, Bibeau also had trouble with net-front scrambles as he had a tendency to chase the puck, rather than playing the percentages and walling off the lower net. These are fixable things and part of a goalie's maturation and growth in confidence.

Kari Ramo's 0-3 with the Marlies and has a 3.80 GAA and 0.880 Sv%.

I really don't get why we waived Enroth so early.

Just saw the highlights from last nights game.  Really, it was a complete tire-fire defensively in front of him and I don't attribute the goals against to poor goaltending.

That said, I haven't seen anything from him either that makes me want to have him as our backup.  I haven't seen anything from Enroth that makes me want to have him as our backup.  Ditto Sparks, despite his better numbers over Bibeau the last couple of seasons.  We saw him last year and learned he isn't an NHL goaltender either.  Might as well give Bibeau a chance while they run with Ramo on the Marlies to see if he's up to snuff.

Let's just hope Freddy stays healthy, or we are in Barney.

Isn't Enroth still on the Marlies?  He could conceivably come back if he finds his game no?

And he's been called back up, per Mirtle.

Bibeau's back with the Marlies.

So, with Ramo playing awful for the Marlies, it boils do to Enroth getting waived so Bibeau could get his first NHL start? Alright then.

Enroth finally won a game?

I'm like Nostradamus here with that call.

I feel like in evaluating Enroth we should probably keep in mind that Andersen's really had to be heroic to get even the results he's gotten.

I actually wonder if this is basically just to get Bibeau into a game this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see him called back up prior to the next B2B situation.

This is where my head is at, too. I think Bibeau played well enough in his first start that he'll get the next B2B at least.

Agreed.  Enroth doesn't have to be placed back on waivers and can move up and down between leagues now that he's cleared them.
