The Habs Thread - Reloaded

Ah, 'Tis a great time to be a Habs fan

Blow it up?

Martin made that team look better than they actually work the last few seasons.  Playing super defensive hockey, hanging around in games until they got a break, that's what you do with an offensively challenged team.  Martin knew they couldn't compete against bigger teams so he had them playing ultra conservative and relying on the goalies until they got a break.  It worked when Halak and Price stole games and the team gained confidence and starting believing they were giant killers.  Seems like they've finally hit reality.

Yeah Martin has been sticking to the same "systems" since his Ottawa days.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment, Zee.

It's starting to look like Martin was a bigger factor in their success than anyone realized.

It must be very amusing for anyone who is fired to sit back and watch the ship sink as soon as you're dismissed, as a hockey coach, or any job really.

Oddly, they probably want nothing more right now than to just have an experienced French Canadian coach.  I bet they'd take him back right now if it wasn't a PR nightmare.

And to Madferret, yes blow it up...I hate this group, always have, you all know that.

Montreal has enough assets to do a quick rebuild / retool. What do you think of Gionta as Captain?

Which are the top five roster players you keep and rebuild around Manson?

I can think of 3, Price, Pacioretty and Subban.  Not sure who else the Habs are high on with the current roster.

Down 3-0 to the Jets midway through the 2nd.  If it keeps going like this the French fans might riot.

Cunneyworth on the verge of going 0-4 to start his tenure behind the Habs bench. He might just want to quit a leave town, because it's going to ugly for him. The team might be terrible, but, we all know the fans and media will blame the non-French speaking coach.

If he has to take a taxi outta town, how can he tell them to "hit it"?  ;)

FWIW,

Said this AM on air Randy Cunneyworth won't make January 7th home game, for better or worse....they're making permanent hire before then.

That is insane.  Has a team ever fired two coaches in a single season?

It was a pretty slick move by PG to again direct his heat on to someone else.

Any predictions as to who they hire? I'm going to say Marc Crawford, and Patrick Roy brought in as his assistant. Legz!

Isn't he just interim?

Bob Hartley is another one who should be considered.

Is this really a shock.  How do players respond to a coach who is knowingly being replaced after day 1 on the job.  Is it worth it to invest energy in learning his systems if you're going to be learning new ones in a couple of weeks anyway?  I know they're professionals and all but their mindset is at least halfway towards this line of thinking.

He is, but I can't recall an "interim" coach getting the axe after they said he'd be "interim" until the end of the season. I do recall they said they'd get a full-time coach AFTER the season was done.

I think it will be Crawford too, which I don't mind, but this is such a disaster.

He's a good player to have but I'm not thrilled about him being captain.  I'd rather have kept Koivu and I still don't understand that switch.
