The Habs Thread - Reloaded

A week before Christmas though? I mean come on! Would waiting a week have killed you guys?

It's not really the same though, is it? I mean, a regular guy who gets laid off a week before Christmas will stop getting paid and will have to tighten their belt to stay afloat. Martin has 18 months on his contract and will still get paid handsomely through them. I mean, if anything, this gives Martin less to worry about and more time with his family.

Yeah Sarge I'm sure this is really going to spoil Martin's Christmas in St. Lucia...but your humanity is touching.  ;)

Yeah, yeah... all of you form a line and kiss my butt.  :P  :) Like I said, I forgot that unlike most of us, he still gets paid for the duration.

Manson what do you think - will this be PG's last year as GM? Is he next?

I doubt it, he hasn't even been the GM for 2 years.  They'll probably keep him on for next year at least.  He hasn't really done all that much, good or bad.  This is still pretty much the team Bob Gainey left him with and Gainey is still in some advisory position with the team that I don't understand.

I think Gauthier's done an okay job overall and will be around for a while still.  My guess is he'll get fired next year when they miss the playoffs for the 2nd straight year ;)

Might as well announce Roy's hiring now?

I can't help but think the team would turn into a bunch of brats if he was the coach.  Can you imagine if we still had Ribeiro, Kostitsyn Jr. and Lapierre, being coached by Roy?  Those types of players seem like they'd just get out of control under a tempermental guy like Roy.  Roy would throw fits on the bench, they'd throw fits on the ice.

I don't know if there's anyone left on the team like those guys, Subban maybe, so it might not be as bad, but I'd be nervous about Roy coaching a team who's probably going to struggle no matter who is the coach.

Roy's temperament would certainly make things interesting.

That was the feeling on Hockeycentral last hour. Roy is far to volatile.

I would love too see him as Habs coach. Would be hilarious for entire 15-20 games he coached.

Ya, it's not the right time.  He needs a team that's going to win so he doesn't lose his head.

However, at least it would spice things up during the next couple years that are shaping up to be pretty bland.

Wilson is bound to be available soon enough - you can have him.

;D ;D He'd go over well with the French media.

No No... He could just lie to the media about being able to speak french.  :D

(can't take credit for that... from DGB.)

You have to feel for any incoming coach of the Habs. He has to be able to speak both French in order to satisfy the media and Elvish to communicate with his forwards.

The Montreal media would go nuts with Wilson and the Leafs.

Ah, 'Tis a great time to be a Habs fan

Blow it up?

Martin made that team look better than they actually work the last few seasons.  Playing super defensive hockey, hanging around in games until they got a break, that's what you do with an offensively challenged team.  Martin knew they couldn't compete against bigger teams so he had them playing ultra conservative and relying on the goalies until they got a break.  It worked when Halak and Price stole games and the team gained confidence and starting believing they were giant killers.  Seems like they've finally hit reality.
