The Official Weather Thread

Yesterday (February 2nd) was Groundhog Day.  What prognostications did these furry creatures put forth?

Here are their tweets:

Not a shadow to be found. Spring is sprung. RIP Winter! #earlyspring

Then to break the tie, Winnipeg Willow (yes, from Manitoba), saw her shadow!

Some Groundhogs they all are!

It's supposed to continue snowing this heavily until about 8 pm?  :o :-\

Roads are pretty empty though, but drive safe everyone.  One of the downfalls of walking to work, is that I really have no excuse for not coming into work today!

Just shovelled what looked like 30 inches of snow. That's just what was on my car. I have yet to shovel the driveway. Damn global warming spoiled me all this time thinking snow was a thing of the past.

So, daughter has a playoff game tonight at 8 in Hamilton. No mention of rescheduling as of yet. Should I leave now to make it on time. Egads!

That makes 2 of us. The call center was still open even though all schools in a 6 county area were closed (normal) along with the universities (never happens). Thankfully I already had 1/2 my shift booked off.

I live about 5 miles north of boston.. We are in the midst of getting at least 2 feet plus of snow. Gonna snow until about noon tomorrow.. Been going since about 10AM today. I love snow and winter but this shoveling will not be fun..Bruins game tomorrow moved form aft to night

I'm so sick of hearing people whining about the weather.  Personally I had no snowbanks at all.  Nothing.  When I lived in Thunder Bay, there were times you couldn't use a snowblower because for most part, they won't throw the snow over the banks.  People here don't even think of snow storage places.  Push it off to the sides and let it melt.

I hope you didn't think I was whining cause I'm not. I love winter. I hate the driving, but I don't have to do it in weather like this. My picture was just a photoshopped joke :) We're USED to snow here, we live right in the middle of the snowbelt (lake effect snow from Huron or Simcoe, depending on which way the wind's blowing)

I was just amused today, by the noon news from Toronto, wherein almost the entire hour was devoted to the weather. Poor cars (with no snow tires) trying to drive uphill; boo hoo the 401 isn't plowed yet; oh boy it's so cold out; the schools are closed oh god I have to stay home with the kids etc etc etc. Me, I went for my power walk same as every other non working day.

that's nuts. Hamilton is closed. Shouldn't have any hockey :-\

Yeah, I sent the team manager an email around 3pm that all arenas in Hamilton were closed. Finally around 4:00/4:30 she sent out an email that it was cancelled. Duh, ya think!  Seriously, a day like today & she should have been checking on things much earlier than 4:00 pm.

My back says kiss my butt, moon... I shoveled my own place 4 times, two of my neighbors places once each, and in between all of that, I helped a number of strangers dig out their stuck cars as they attempted my street which STILL hasn't been plowed yet which means I'm going to have another round in the morning as a try to clear out the bottom of my driveway. I'm tired, sore and my feet haven't thawed out yet.

You know what I'm sick of? People whining about people whining about the weather.

Well, I'm gonna whine about it. I like winter but I hate it living in TO or for me personally Brampton. People DO NOT know to drive in the snow and a normal 20 min drive to work would take me about 2 hrs. That's BS!

I grew up in Newfoundland with some wicked snowstorms. Doesn't bother me at all but when you are dealing with so many drivers on the road and ones that just can't drive in it, it royally sucks.

Anyways, we had a snow day today. Schools and offices were closed (I work at the board office). Little guy had a PA day anyhow because it was parent/teacher interviews last night and DD got the day off. We all went out shovelled & played in the snow with youngest and had fun.

Not sure how you powerwalk in this kind of snow LH but ill stick to my treadmill in the basement.

And moon, no, we have nowhere to put all the snow. We don't have a snowblower, so it's not compacted and the banks are pretty darn high.

There, that's my whine & I'm proud of it.

I think about all the squirrels in the park that look forward to my sunflower seeds. It's only about 4 km; the snow was about knee deep, but only in park. The sidewalks on the way there only had about 4 or 5 inches on it. Just slog my way through it. :) I love being the first footsteps (well, except for the squirrels) in the park after/during a snowfall.....

Shovelled snow this morning. Went to work. Came back home only to find my street not shovelled. Zero. Nada. Nothing. I got stuck right in front of my driveway. Huge bank of snow. Then I saw my driveway. God. Full of snow. I have no energy.

I don't know if you guys have been watching the weather patterns on the weather network web site but your Boston storm is going to join the Ontario storm here in the Maritimes and we are supposed to get hammered.

Another 2 hours of shovelling/picking away at the concrete-like, waist-high wall that the plow left at the bottom of my driveway. - Going to see my chiropractor on Monday (thank God.)
