I'm in northwestern Ontario. Potvin's northernish, but I don't consider him truly north because he's below the 49th.

You torontonians need to realize two things:
1. 95% of Canada is above the 49th parallel, and
2. Barrie is not in the north.

:)
we consider ourselves 'Central Ontario'. To me, 'northern' Ontario starts in like, North Bay/Sudbury area :)
We are considered to be the gateway of the north ;D

But when you get Superior's weather, you can call yourself northern.

I'll give you that. I actually do consider Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury to be in Northeastern Ontario, but anything south of that is definitely not northern.

Or I'm just a typical southern northern Ontario elite.

Quite frankly, anything North of St. Clair is Northern Ontario as far as I'm concerned.

Are people still wearing $800 Canada goose quilted jackets with fur-lined hoods and mad-bomber hats in Toronto when it's above 0?

I'm not judging -- my fashion sense is abysmal -- I just found it humorous when I lived there for a few months that everywhere I looked was someone in these jackets and hats while I'm walking down the street in just a shirt and light sweater. An ugly, cheap sweater, but nonetheless it was temperature-appropriate.

To be fair, many people in Toronto are originally from places where three or four degrees is about as cold as it can possibly get. Not all of us are lucky enough to be from hardy northern stock.

True enough.

I do have to give you guys credit, it's nice seeing people actually give a crap about what they look like.

True, but when a $300 down jacket from another company can do pretty much the same thing I think they're more being sold on trend and image than anything else.

But what about the Canada Goose patch on the sleeve!?!?!?!?!? You don't get THAT with a $300 coat!

Kidding aside, I was interested in becoming part of the Canada Goose trend until I saw the price. Are the people that buy these things nuts!? I'm sure the jackets are super warm and top-quality but as you said, they're no better than the $300-$400 down-filled coats.

Back to the topic: it was -47 windchill this morning.  :-\ The wind has died down, so it's -37C with no wind chill.

yay?

-44 here this morning with the windchill....Up the road(where I'm heading) in Timmins, the temp hit -53 lastnight with the windchill....

Rain and wind tonight.

How bad are the windows in this place? Bad enough that the plastic covering them moves in with the wind. Yikes.

Did you hear the thunder? Yowza!

That was weird! It woke me up twice that night, hours apart. I went to bed with rain, woke up to snow!

And now the temps have dropped to below -10, which is fine - I am just not a big fan of windchill.

It was, what, mid minus twenties with windchill in Guelph this morning? Annoying but bearable. Wore gloves and a warm hat today.

I happened to be outside that night, around 2 am, while I stared at the sky to the south west the rain instantly turned to sleet and hail then was back lit by lightning and echoed by thunder, pretty trippy, feel kind of lucky to have been looking in the right direction at the time.
