TOP 5 PICK!!!

The last game of the season just ended with a 4-1 loss which meant that the Leafs will get the 5th overall pick in this years draft. If they won this game they would have finished with the 7th overall pick and it has been said that the top 5 or 6 are superstar type players before the talent drops off.

Who do you guys hope the Leafs draft? I am hoping for Forsberg or Galchenyuk. They should be able to get one of them easily.

I don't get how we get the 5th pick (right now) Didn't Anaheim finish tied but behind us because of one less win? I think we are 6th

This is a really good site for up to date mock drafts and I agree with their prediction:

1. Yakupov is the obvious choice for Columbus.
2. Edmonton is desperate for D and Dumba is a stud.
3. Montreal needs Center and Grigorenko seems to be the best available and he played in the QMJHL. Good fit.
4. Islanders need defence also and will take the next best available and a great puck mover in Murray.
5. Leafs should have a choice between Galchenyuk and Forsberg. Many have said that Galchenyuk would have challenged for #1 with Yakupov but was injured for most of the season which caused the drop. Big Centerman which the Leafs desperately need!

Not necessarily 5th, have a shot at 1st and a shot at being kicked to 6th via draft lottery.

Yep I made this table, correct me if it's wrong.

1st - 8.1%
5th - 74.7%
6th - 17.2%

A couple of reporters (Steve Simmons and Marc Antoine Godin) have mentioned that Columbus's 1st over all pick (should they win it) is in play according to their multiple sources with different organizations.

Yes, I know...Simmons, but he was on TSN radio for about an hour and walked through the scenario at length and made some compelling points about the situation.

Of course Columbus could just be doing their due diligence ("listening"), but if you think it's completely implausible, I have two names for you:

Nikita Filatov and Nikolai Zherdev

Some are speculating that Columbus doesn't want to expose themselves to the possibility of getting burned again by another Russian prospect (even though one could argue Yakupov's situation is different).

So the theory is that they may be willing to drop down.

I really want Forsberg or Galchenyuk.

In our slot (5/6) those two are at the top of my wish list. Though if one of them goes ahead of us, it likely means that somebody passed on one of Dumba or Murray and man, it would be hard to pass on either of those guys.

Maybe Burke repeats history and makes trades to get two top 5 picks so he can draft Yakupov and Galchenyuk. Played together in Sarnia and dominated!

Wowza! Nice idea. So you'd have to get 1 and 2 (just to be safe) to do that. I shudder to think to cost of going so..

Not really. Galchenyuk is slotted to go between 5-8 so we can get him with our current pick. We would need to make a trade with Columbus for the 1st overall. Schenn, Kadri and 2nd rounder would get it done.
