TOP 5 PICK!!!

Not really. Galchenyuk is slotted to go between 5-8 so we can get him with our current pick. We would need to make a trade with Columbus for the 1st overall. Schenn, Kadri and 2nd rounder would get it done.

You're likely correct. Though I'd hate to see some team draft Galchenyuk to screw up that plan.  Anyhoo, I think it's a bit of a stretch this happens.

Not as sexy but if either Dumba or Murray were available I'd take them over Galchenyuk. We need better defense more than anything. Well except for decent goaltending.

As I suggested above, it would be hard to pass on either of those guys... Especially Dumba. Gardiner/Dumba could be the next Niedermayer/Stevens! (dreaming.)

Sorry. Not much to else with this team to get excited about right now though. I will endeavour to tamper my expectations!

This is a really good site for up to date mock drafts and I agree with their prediction:

http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/

1. Yakupov is the obvious choice for Columbus.
2. Edmonton is desperate for D and Dumba is a stud.
3. Montreal needs Center and Grigorenko seems to be the best available and he played in the QMJHL. Good fit.
4. Islanders need defence also and will take the next best available and a great puck mover in Murray.
5. Leafs should have a choice between Galchenyuk and Forsberg. Many have said that Galchenyuk would have challenged for #1 with Yakupov but was injured for most of the season which caused the drop. Big Centerman which the Leafs desperately need!

Galchenyuk is my choice even over Grigorenko. I think the only reason why Grigorenko ranks higher right now is due to injury. Racking up points in the Q isn't as tough as the O or W. Regardless of what happens with the lottery pick, I think the Leafs get a quality building block, whether upfront or on D.

I would try to hang on to Kadri and see if I could offer a different piece. might be tough though.

I just wanted to say that because of how angry it made me when Pierre would lose it over every prospect who played for Team Canada.

Yet I will surely act the same about whichever prospect we draft.

If Schenn were playing anywhere close to his hype we'd have that potential pairing already.  (And yes, dreaming....)

Happy we are going to get a skilled potential superstar in this draft, however, we so need a young Gary Roberts in our top 6.  I hope that can be acquired via the trade route, we desperately need that.

Leafs must draft skill with this high a pick, not make Luke Schenn error one more time.

So Luke Schenn is officially a bust at age 22?  And here I was holding off 'til next year to write him off.

Well he didn't really say that he was a bust, just implied that he wasn't a very good pick... which, at this point, is hard to disagree with.

To be fair, Cox was all over the Leafs for taking Schenn over Filatov immediately after the draft, so, this is nothing new for him.

It's actually pretty easy. What's hard to disagree with is that Schenn has not been suited for what the Maple Leafs apparently wanted out of him which was to be a hyper-competent NHL defensive defenseman at the ages of 18-22.

Take out the word hyper and I would say that's a very accurate statement. The expectation was that he would be a competent defensive defenseman, not someone who struggles with the basic requirements to be an NHL player.
