I saw Domingue play when he was with the Coyotes and thought he looked pretty good, perhaps better than Hutch will ever be.

Leafs would be around 81,651,866 with Domingue on the roster. That would be 12 forwards 7 D men so if they drop to 6 D men at home they could do it. That would also mean that a guy like Hyman won't be back without trading someone of similar or more value..They would also have to drop guys like Petan because he makes 750 instead of the 700 that a Spezza makes. Easy solution would be to send Mikhayev down but he's earned his spot so far.CarltonTheBear said:herman said:Tampa trying to squeeze down two goalies through waivers. Might be worth a flier on either one!
Domingue could be an interesting option but we can't fit his cap hit in ($1.15mil). Condon's pretty bad and we definitely can't fit his cap hit ($2.4mil).

I don't see them doing that either. Just saying it can be done. The Leafs will most likely go with a 20 man roster at home but will def need to take a #7 on the road with them. It would also present another issue of being at the 50 man limit without having Neuvirth signed. Apparently he's playing tomorrow night so if he proves to be good enough, they wouldn't have the room. Of course we'll have quite a few guys going on waivers soon as well.CarltonTheBear said:Guilt Trip said:Leafs would be around 81,651,866 with Domingue on the roster. There's no way the Leafs cost themselves a roster spot and play a 20-man roster all season just to get a back-up goalie who might be slightly better than the one we have.

Or a better opportunity to get scooped on waivers because he?s been a good soldier for Dubas and deserves a chance to play somewhere?
The cap is calculated daily no? If it is then there is a benefit. You take off the $700K daily hit of a player. It adds up in 41 games or whatever days there are.CarltonTheBear said:Guilt Trip said:The Leafs will most likely go with a 20 man roster at home but will def need to take a #7 on the road with them.

Not when you are in LTIR. You don't accumulate any cap space- you've used it all every day you are in LTIR.
Agreed. The fact they went out and got McBackup should tell all.CarltonTheBear said:Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate said:Is he? Or is he considerably better?
He had a .908 save percentage last season in 26 games. Among goalie who played 25+ games that put him 35th. 31st in GAA. All while playing on the best (regular season) team the league has seen in years. That's really not anything to get excited about.

There's marginal cap benefit if there's someone they can easily shift back and forth without waivers. The problem is, the only defenceman who doesn't require waivers, might be NHL calibre right now, and isn't one of the team's top prospects is Kivihalme.

You can save some of that LTIR space by not maxing out there every day. The Leafs will be awfully close to their absolute max this season, so being able to create a little bit of wiggle room could be useful.

You have the full amount of LTIR space available to you for as long as a player is on LTIR. That means, at the end of the season, the Leafs can be over the cap by the full value of Clarkson's and Horton's contracts, regardless of what their daily calculations are. If they spend ~$300K less between now and the trade deadline, that full value is available to them to use. It's not building additional space, it's optimizing the usage of it.
