So far, it's pretty ugly predictions for our boys. I don't feel quite as pessimistic though I haven't looked things over much yet.

If it means we can get one of either MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin or Barkov then I really don't mind!

:)

*Edit: Wouldn't it be interesting if we drafted Max Domi? He seems like a pretty damn good player!

Carlyle on Kadri: "He's proven he has NHL skills... He's been one of our strongest players at camp... We'd be crazy not to recognize that."

Sounds good, Carlyle with an open mind.  For whatever reason I always got the sense that Wilson and Burke were really down on Kadri.  Maybe it's just the way the press chose to report it.

?The one thing that?s impressed us with Kadri was in the faceoff circle, a little area where one-on-one compete has to be high. He beat some of our veteran guys in our area to start with the puck. He has the skill set, he showed it before, he showed it in the American League. And we have to make a decision whether he can continue to make a contribution at the NHL level.?
- Toronto Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle on Nazem Kadri.

So, it's looking more clear today who our players are going to be....I hope I'm not forgetting a forward here.

Lupul/ Bozak/ Kessel
MacArthur/ Grabovski/ Kulemin
van Riemsdyk/ Kadri/ Komarov
Brown/ McClement/ Steckel
Orr

Gunnarsson/ Phaneuf
Liles/ Franson
Gardiner/ Komisarek
Kostka

Reimer
Scrivens

Question is, are they going to keep an extra forward, or a defenseman? Frattin or Holzer will most likely be on pins and needles today. I think Kostka will make the team, because of his strong play and waiver ineligibility, as I think somebody is waiting to snag him.

If Gardiner is out for the first few games, do they give those games to Rielly and then send him back when Gardiner is ready? Or does Rielly go back right away and the keep both Kostka and Holzer, maybe forcing them to find a trade, before Gardiner is back?

Is Holzer exempt? He just has a one-way, which should not be confused with his waiver status. If he's not waiver exempt, Carlyle will have to go with him, as he would surely be grabbed.

What do people think will be the way the last cuts go today?

I haven't heard much about this Kostka guy so I can't say.  I assume Gardiner won't be rushed back and will be put on injured reserve so that opens up a spot.  Rielly or Holzer to start on Saturday?  I can see the Leafs keeping Rielly up for 5 games to give Gardiner 1 extra week to prepare (yes, game 5 is only 1 week away lol)

I thought Marc Fraser was sticking around -- possibly Kostka/Fraser as the third pair for now with Komi as the extra; then when Gardiner is all better, we buy out Komi.

Kostka is playing at a PPG in the AHL, he's definitely playing really good hockey right now, so I think he can easily play some games in the NHL. I also think that he will get plucked on waivers, so Carlyle has some important decisions to make today. Rielly is easy, I think.

Doesn't sound like Frattin is going to start in the NHL, so, the decisions are going to come with Holzer, Rielly, Kostka and Fraser. I wouldn't want to make these kinds of choices today. Maybe Nonis makes it easy and makes a trade, rather than potentially losing in waivers again.

I think the lineup looks better than a week ago sans Colton Orr.  Orr is not a useful player in the NHL and should not be getting any ice time.  I hope that is the case.

If we're being fair, I think we need to wait and evaluate Orr on his play this year (assuming he plays, of course).  If the reports of his skating improvement are accurate, and he's not simply a boxer with skates, then he'll bring strong forechecking, taking the body, and the occasional fight to the lineup, which is needed in my opinion.  The days of dressing him just to beat up Carkner are over, but if he can give 7 minutes of strong 4'th line play (plus some penalty killing, if reports are right) then I welcome him to the lineup.

I agree, the lineup looks way better than a week ago. Really, my only significant change would be Frattin in place of MacArthur, who I'm sure could be easily moved for a decent pick or prospect.
