Grabovski has a much better track record than Clarkson

He does?

Aside from this season Grabovski scored (or was on pace to score) at least 48 points in each of his last 4 seasons. Clarkson has never reached that total in his career. So, yeah.

Clarkson has one 20+ goal season (2 if you pro-rate this past season, but, with the way he disappeared after the first month, I'm not really willing to). Two seasons where he put up more than 30 points (3 if you pro-rate this season) and only one where he put up more than 40 (2 if you pro-rate). Grabovski, on the other hand, has 3 20+ goal seasons, has never put up less that 30 points in a full NHL season and this past season would have been only his 2nd at less than 40 - the only other being a season in which he as injured. So, yeah, he absolutely does.

Alrighty then. Still, it's clear I like Clarkson. - For whatever that's worth.

I'd even rather have Horton over Clarkson. At least with Horton you know you're getting a top-6 forward. I have a serious problem overpaying for 3rd liners. Look at every Stanley Cup finalist in the past 5 years and find me more than 2 overpaid players (total) in a teams bottom-6 group of forwards.

Horton's injury history doesn't scare you?

Nathan Horton's agent has told several in Boston media his client wants to test free agency.

This could turn out to be one of the busiest off seasons in quite some time.

It's also worth mentioning that Clarkson's big goal scoring season came about with giving him tons of time on the PP with Kovalchuk/Parise/Elias. I really question his ability to produce at anywhere near that rate if the plan is to have him come in and play on a 3rd line.

I wouldn't commit to him long-term or give him really big money, but, 3 or 4 years at $5M per . . . I'd do that. He's scored at a 20 goal pace every season of his career and has usually been on pace for 50+ points. He's generally good for 65+ games a season, which isn't fantastic, obviously, but that's why he won't get paid like he's expected to be a key piece of the offence.

The thing though is that for me, I wouldn't expect career years from him anyway.

Well, his career average is 19 goals, 14 assists per 82 games. If that's a 5 million dollar player to you...

No. Like I said, slightly less given the intangibles. I think Clarkson's a late bloomer and would play above his career average.

Not really. I don't think there's much of a point in looking too far far back into a player injury history. So looking at just the past 3 years when in Boston, he played essentially full seasons in two of them. In 2011-12 he missed half the season because of a concussion, which nowadays can seemingly happen to anybody on the ice. He got through a full season now without any concussion issues so hopefully it's behind him.

If anything his injury history will help in the contract negotiations.

Also, it's a little concerning that Clarkson who we'd be theoretically be signing to be sort of an all-around contributor has played roughly the same amount of time on a NHL penalty kill as I have.

Told Mark Fraser got QO from the Toronto Maple Leafs on a 2 way Qualifier and will not accept #TSN

Dang.

His qualifying offer would have been close to the league minimum and like Ward says a two-way contract. He obviously wasn't going to accept it. But he's still a RFA so there's really nothing to worry about. That's honestly not even tweet worthy. Did Kadri accept his QO?

Ah. I was worried that meant Fraser wasn't in the Leafs plans. Thanks for clarifying.

Edit: Though I'm curious why they chose to offer him a 2-way? Is he not deserving of a 1-way?

Let's just say it's another of those intangibles.

Without any hesitation, I'd take Horton over Clarkson, even for $1M+ more. I'm still on the Stastny band-wagon though.

What about Ryan O'Rielly, if he is also available, I mean, if Colorado is looking to a trade center, but not necessarily Stastny? Which would you pick?

They can't trade O'Reilly until next March.
