Wayne Simmonds

I wonder if the Leafs can go the emergency route with Simmonds? If they can they can technically use Engvall for 9 games and not have his waiver eligibility change so they could technically have 12 more games of him being waiver exempt.

Don't think being recalled on an emergency basis would mean anything for Engvall. The process you're thinking of just deals with players who have already cleared waivers.

I wasn't sure how it worked.

Sucks, but there is so much silver lining.

More LTIR used to bring up 4th line churn while we explore whether or not Boyd/Anderson/Brooks/Barabanov can give middle-six minutes. Simmonds can really work on his skating in the meantime and come back even more terrifying to Vancouver.

While anyone can improve, I think you're being pretty optimistic that a 32 1/2 year old with access to professional skating coaches his whole life will show much improvement over a six week span.

If i were the coaching and dev staff, it won't be about rebuilding his stride or anything like that. It'd be more like eking out 5-10% more effectiveness from how he comes off the boards with the puck under pressure, or some other common leverage moment. Edgework and body positioning and mentality.

And you're going to do that in a few weeks with his wrist in a cast?

Yup! From everything I've heard about Wayne, even if the staff don't request it of him, he'll ask to do it.

You'd be surprised - I remember in the 2014 lockout shortened season, Joffrey Lupul broke his arm in game 3 or 4 of the season, and while his arm was healing, worked incredibly hard on his skating.  When he came back after the injury, he played like an animal the rest of the season.  He had 11 goals and 7 assists in the 13 games to finish the season.

That was the year he did this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knIHoVjj4gc&feature=emb_title

Bad timing.  I've underestimated this guys impact for sure.
I heard Lupul has a Hollywood role, got a bit part in "Glass 2".  Actually loved the Lup's to bad he couldn't hack the grind.
