What to do with Andersen

I think that in order to get two solid defencemen, either Nylander or Freddie has to go. There's just too much money tied up.
And if Freddie goes, who will be the #1? You'll have to pay to get a #1 guy and it'll be more then 5 mill.

There's gonna be like a dozen goalies who change teams this offseason.

It's def shaping up that way. If we could possibly get Lehner for a reasonable price, I'd look into moving Freddie. Looking at the list, I don't see anyone else as a serious upgrade. Don't know if Campbell can be that guy.

I don't know how reasonable the price would be for Lehner. Not with the way he's playing.

I don't know either. If the Leafs are unwilling or unable to pay for Lehner, I don't see them moving Freddie because there really aren't many options that will improve the position. At least not the UFA way.

What about the bromance between Auston and Freddo?  I know its sports but its also about bro love!

Same with his close relationships to Marleau and Martin: they transcend the teams they play on.

I think the idea isn't that they are looking to improve the position, rather, look at a platoon scenario with lesser goalies to save cap room. It's not ideal, but if they want to keep certain players up front, that's one of the only directions left.

Juggling number 2 goalies is the best way to sink to the bottom and start picking the low hanging fruit from the top-five draft tree again.

I agree. Don't see the Leafs wanting to save cap room at the expense of weakening our goalies. Whether people like Freddie or not, 5 mill is cheap for what he's given them over the 4 years.

Assuming Lehner doesn't just stay where he is, he made 5M this year on a 1-year deal with Chicago.  We don't save any cap space on signing him

But many would argue he'd be an upgrade on Freddie. Sign Lehner, trade Freddie. I don't think he stays in Vegas. They can't afford to keep him and MAF, who makes 7 mill for the next 2 and I don't see anyone wanting to take that on unless Vegas takes salary back and they're not exactly loaded with cap space.

To what real benefit.  Even if we say Lehner is better than Freddie.  At most you are getting a 2nd/3rd round pick worth of value out of Freddie.  We don't have the cap space to make our goaltending more expensive.

Can you really downgrade/reduce starting goaltending costs though?

Not arguing against you. I was simply responding to someone saying that Willy or Freddie has to go in order to get 2 good d men. My thought is of all the UFA goalies, only Lehner is an upgrade on Freddie and you would only move him if you get Lehner for a reasonable price. I don't see that happening.

I've been meaning to make an Andersen thread and the conversation about him seemed to get going in the General thread so split that off into it's own thread.

The alternate title for this was going to be "Ander-stay or Ander-go?".

If he stays there could be trouble, if he goes there could be double?

Haha, good one!

I like both "The Per-Fred destination" and "The Frederick Rhetoric"

That will be my full contribution to this thread,
