I'm curious what happens with McFarland and Hakstol - since both of them are in the first years of their assistant coaching jobs...
Did anyone notice the Leafs play any different with these new guys? I didn't. PP looks the same. Obviously Babs was still calling the shots. They'll stay for now.

They need to go too.  Unless Keefe is just an interim coach.
Keefe isn't interim. He's been hired as the head coach.

They've signed him to a contract beyond this year?

Should have fired Dubas as well
What people fail to realize is that Dubas has helped assemble this team, has put a marquee development system in place with the Marlies and now the Growlers. Brought in experts from all over the place. No expense is being spared. This is the state of the art organization.
The reality is that the Leafs needed to bring in Babcock to establish credibility, remember how we all jumped with joy when his signing was announced. Yes they needed to unlock the cashbox and give him way too long a term...market demands. Would have they signed Tavares without him...no.
The further reality is that Babcock was not Dubas hire, it has always been crystal clear that Keefe was the heir apparent, he is Dubas man.
It is also a fact that Dubas would have preferred to replace Babcock before this season, but was blocked by the powers above.
When people on all these boards start pointing the finger at Dubas and his hands are tied, it doesn't make sense.

Barring bigger moves I don't think it's all that uncommon to keep some of the assistants at least for this year and then make bigger changes next year.

Keefe was always going to be Dubas' coach at some point.  Unless the team flounders and then they decide to rashly clean house I don't expect him to be an interim coach.
Keefe is NOT INTERIM...31st Head Coach in Leafs History

One big thing.  The team doesn't get better immediately (assuming Keefe can get the team to the next level).

Last year St. Louis fired Mike Yeo after going 7-9-3 to start the year.  They proceeded to go 8-9-1 through November/December before turning it on in the new year.

Keefe doesn't make the team better.  The players performing better makes the team better.  There will obviously be some utilization changes.  Maybe there are roster moves made too but I would imaging that we don't see major drastic changes to the lineup in the interim.

Wait what? The coach wasn't all to blame?

Of course not. But being stubborn didn't help.

Leafs go on a tear and a 10 game winning streak.
Doubt that happens but it's going to be interesting to see how the ice gets distributed, lines are formed, d pairings. It will take some time.
