Game Notes

DET
?Petr Mrazek (15-17-7, 2.97 GAA, .902 Sv%) will likely start for the Wings
?Detroit sits last in the Eastern Conference and is on the verge of ending their 25-year playoff streak. But don't tell Head Coach Jeff Blashill that, on Friday Blashill told the media that "we will make the playoffs because of Henrik Zetterberg". Whatever the heck that means
?Dylan "All-Star" Larkin might not crack 30-points this season. Ditto for Justin "World Cup'er" Abdelkader

TOR
?Andersen (24-14-13, 2.73 GAA, .916 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs are basically neck-and-neck with the Bruins and the Islanders for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic and final WC spot respectively. But that won't last much longer unless we start seeing some wins

Injuries

?Gustav Nyquist - Illness - Questionable Tuesday
?Ryan Sproul - Lower Body - Injured Reserve
?Jonathan Ericsson - Wrist - Injured Reserve
?Jimmy Howard - Knee - Injured Reserve
?Johan Franzen - Concussion - Injured Reserve
?Joe Vitale - Concussion - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - ?\_(?)_/? - Out indefinitely
?Stephane Robidas - Old - Out indefinitely
?Connor Carrick - Upper Body - Injured Reserve

1pt behind NYI for the second WC and 4pts back of Boston for third in Atlantic with 2 games in hand. Detroit, Philadelphia and Carolina this week. All winnable games. Let's do this! I would argue that the conference is much closer even than it appears. The Leafs' lack of success in OT and especially shootout means they haven't been able to artificially inflate their win totals. They still have 22 regulation losses, tied with NY Rangers and Ottawa for 5th in the conference.

A Must win for the Leafs. Do it for Joe Bowen 3000th game as the (real) voice of the Leafs.

Holy Mackinaw, Go Leafs Go!

On a personal note, I would love to see Joe & Jim calling games on TV again.

By shear force of will, Zetterberg will push the Wings to make up the 10 point gap between them and a playoff spot. His intensity will force all the teams between them into losing streaks - including both teams somehow ending up with the loss when two teams between Detroit and a playoff spot meet head-to-head - and convince the league to allow the Wings to play as many games as needed to earn those extra points - against non-NHL teams, so that none of their competitors can earn points.

That is the magic of Henrik Zetterberg.

If the Leafs can pump the Wings tonight, Detroit will be 11 back of the Leafs with 18 to play, will coach Blashill finally admit defeat then?

- Henrik Zetterberg has made the playoffs during every NHL season he's been in the league
- This is an NHL season
- Henrik Zetterberg is in the league

Ergo, the Red Wings will make the playoffs. It's just math.

Henrik Zetterberg has fewer points than Auston Matthews.
Auston Matthews is better than Henrik Zetterberg.

Math checks out.

Honestly, the Wings don't even need Zetterberg. If they go 17-1 they have a pretty good shot, regardless of who's playing. Put that in your math pipe.

Bownsie on Primetime. Congratulations Joe!
"God bless you boys!! You wanna talk about heart... this is unbelievable!"

The closest we ever got in the Pat Quinn Era. 2002, overtime, Game Six, Conference Final. Carolina would go on to win the Cup. Couldn't find the Joe call but here's CBC.

Edit: Got it!

... and we're stuck with Paul Romanuk calling the regional games while this legend is still on the radio. I swear if it wasn't a minute ahead I'd mute the TV audio and listen to the radio. Bownsie and Rick Jeannerette are regional homer legends.

Marner with the swipe and Marchenko buries the garbage against his former team.

Some conversation about whether JvR interfered with Mrazek.

If they call this off I'm flying to T.O. and they'd better have the door to the war room barred.

Matthews just had a strong shift defensively and offensively, primarily by not passing to Hyman.
