Ron Wilson doesn't know any players on the Russian team:

He said something similar about Team Sweden earlier too. He was asked about Alexander Nylander and he replied "who's he?".

It's almost like he goes out of his way to be a jackass.

He seems to be like this most of the time too, playing for him must have been awesome.

I'm picturing Ron Wilson as the Leafs' coach writing in the first line and trying to think of the name of the Russian guy who wears #84 for 10 minutes before shrugging his shoulders and just writing Bozak out of habit.

I've been impressed with Werenski, he looks like he'll be an excellent PP QB.

He's going to have nightmares about that 2nd Russian goal though if the US lose.

Oh for sure, most of the guys in the tournament still have work to do in their own zone.

Werenski skates like a high level NHLer already though, he stands out in ever game you see him because of it. Reminds me of Reilly in that regard.

In case anyone wants to catch the last couple of minutes.

Matthews hasn't been as impressive as I thought he'd be.

Finland vs Russia for gold.

Samsonov was excellent, he made a right pad save in the final minute that was insane.

I wonder if the Caps would entertain moving him for some help at the deadline, looks like a great prospect.

As someone who's watched exactly none of this tournament I really thought it was the Americans' tournament to lose.

Which, I guess, they did. Anyways, bring on Winter War 2: Return of the White Death.

Yeah I thought both goalies were terrific. Russia came flying out of the gate and would have had at least a few on the board by the end of the 1st if not for Nedeljkovic who made some equally insane stops.

Russia ended up outshooting the U.S. 33-27, not bad for a bunch of no-namers.

Wilson seemed to take the Donald Trump approach to knowing his opponents.  Canada not getting into the semi-finals was disappointing but this US team going 3-2-0 is worse in my estimation.  It likely nails the door shut on Wilson coaching again.

His crack about their names is going to show up in all of those Russian Hockey Federation recruiting videos.

Too bad for Team Sweden and for Team USA.

Finland can claim bragging rights, as the host nation when it meets Team Russia in tomorrow's Gold medal matchup.

Team USA meets Team Sweden in the Bronze medal game.  Perhaps US coach Ron Wilson might need a guidebook to figure out who they're playing.  :o

Those dastardly teenagers were just too immature for excellent coach Lowry.

?There is a point in time where that transfer of responsibility goes from the coach to the player and that?s the beauty of this event,? said Renney. ?We?re talking about teenagers that have to cope and deal with situations in the spontaneity of hockey that sometimes work against you and sometimes don?t. The bottom line is the coaching staff did an excellent job. At the end of the day, our special teams needed to maybe perform a little bit better. When you?re save percentage is under .900, everybody knows that it?s going to be tough to win.?

While Finland made a goalie change after Canada?s third goal, Lowry kept Mackenzie Blackwood in the game for all six goals. It was a decision that Renney supported.

?At the end of the day, I was paying more attention to the way we were playing than the goaltending, to be honest with you," Renney said. "And I was more concerned with the discipline of our team and making sure we could keep a real good power play off the ice by the nature of how we played collectively. As much as we lost that game, we certainly could have won it if we had

I couldn't disagree more wih the quotation.  I always believed that confidence, discipline and preparedness is instilled by the coaching staff, especially with such a young team.

It's not that Team Canada didn't have talent.  It was more like they didn't seem to know how to utilize it.  That 6-5 quarter-final loss to Finland was a case in point.
They could challenge with the best, but again, one wonders why the Canadian kids finally gelled at the last minute?  Where were they all throughout this tournament, or shall we be asking, where was the coaching guidance & systems?
