There has to be more heading their way. Lots of moving parts here.Chicago only getting a 3rd round pick to retain half of Rantanen and trade Hall. What the hell are they doing...and do they have another Jake McCabe
It’s a good long term move for the Avs. Clearly, they didn’t think they could get Rantanen extended. If Carolina can’t, this is an expensive rental.Necas and Kotka are 2nd and 3rd in 5v5 pts/60....not too shabby. I like Necas.
Something tells me he wants more then Mac and Avs said nope, not happening. Good move by Avs.It’s a good long term move for the Avs. Clearly, they didn’t think they could get Rantanen extended. If Carolina can’t, this is an expensive rental.
Still lots of moving parts, but Kotkaniemi is not part of this

The massive three way deal will send Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall to Carolina, Martin Necas & Jack Drury to Colorado per sources.

Chicago takes on 50% of Rantanen’s salary and gets its own third round pick back. @frank_seravalli on the trade first
It’s this year’s pick. There’s no currently unsigned RFAs worth anything - and they wouldn’t be able to play this season.Funny how Taylor Hall is always in the middle of a crazy blockbuster trade day that no one had any inkling of
Chicago getting their own 3rd back = offer sheet?

Carolina wins in the short term, for sure, but if Rantanen doesn’t sign an extension, that’s one helluva expensive rental.Again, WTF is Chicago doing. Carolina come out as big winners in this specific trade. What Colorado follows this up with defines their season
Colorado is getting picks in return too: 2nd rounder in the 2025 Draft and 4th rounder in the 2026 Draft.

That's a great deal for a pending UFA. People are sleeping on Necas who is only 9pts behind Rant, is signed for 1 more year and will be cheaper. If Marner wasn't going to sign here, I wouldn't have an issue with that return.Colorado is getting picks in return too: 2nd rounder in the 2025 Draft and 4th rounder in the 2026 Draft.

Colorado makes out really well for a pending UFA they obviously weren’t likely to retain.
Chicago did a stupidTrade call underway now. Full deal:
— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) January 25, 2025
To #RaiseUp: Mikko Rantanen, Taylor Hall
To #GoAvsGo: Martin Necas, Jack Drury, 2025 2nd Round Pick, 2026 4th Round Pick (all from Carolina)
To #Blackhawks: 2025 3rd Round Pick (their own returned from Carolina), 50% of Rantanen’s salary
And… not sure how to process yet, but impeccable source said that this Rantanen deal was not the biggest thing on the table in the last 48 hours.

👀
Friedman on SN says Canes were working on separate deals with Vancouver for either Miller or Pettersson but decided to go with the Rantanen package.
