2011-2012 NHL Thread

Just so I'm not completely misunderstood, I'm all for "old fashion" hockey hits and play in general.

My point with regards to the Letang hit is that the league has set out relatively clear cut criteria for what warrants a suspension and that hit meets them all IMO.

If they're going to bother to set out criteria and suspend certain players based on them (MacArthur and others), then they need to be consistent throughout the year.

If Cooke/Avery/Ott/Neil (except if it's on Grabovski) or others of that ilk make that hit it's a suspendable offense. I don't get the double standard.

Yeah, the Pacioretty hit was a pretty clear blind-side hit to the head. Should be at least 2 games, if not more.

EDIT:

Real_ESPNLeBrun: hearing via phone tomorrow morning for Pacioretty (hit on Letang)

Obviously the league has issues with the hit as well. By phone means 5 or less games (possibly just a fine or nothing at all, as well).

Let's what sheriff shanny does. I didn't see any body contact personally, looked like it was only on the head, and a blind side.

I think it was at least as bad (which is to say worse than) as the MacArthur hit.

Shanny seemed to be harsh IMO in the pre-season, partly to deter these types of hits and partly because he could do so without it having much effect on the teams (i.e. pre-season games don't really matter). However Mac did get 2 regular season games, plus the 1 pre-season game.

This hit deserves at least 3 but may only get 2. Somehow I think it'll get nothing.

I hope, and think it's at least three games. If that's what MacArthur got for what looked to be a dive by Abdelkader, then I thinking breaking a guy's nose on a blindside hit to the head should get at least three.

Should at least get 2 game for that hit. If you want to cut back on these head shots these are the type of plays that need to be punished.

Just because Kypreos is so against there being a suspension on this hit, I'm hoping for 4 or 5 games. Not that it would shut him up at all, but, you know.

I personally did not find that hit all that bad.

Was poetic justice though that Letang sped past Pacioretty on the rush just before his goal.

It may not have looked that bad, but, having seen the
replay, there is no question that the head was the
principle point of contact.  How else could Letang sustain
a broken nose from a hit then?  Since the league
(Shanahan) has made it clear that that is what they're
trying to wean out (head shots), then this Pacioretty hit
qualifies in that category.

Imagine if it had been Crosby and not Letang who had been hit instead.  *shudders*

Yup, that's a hit they want out of the game but it's so close timing wise, it looks like Pacioretty was going for the body to me but missed.

No dive either, like the MacArthur suspension...

Man, was Letang ever careless.  I can't believe a professional player can cut across the ice with his head down!!!

Contact with the head or not I feel it is getting ridiculous how the league is going regarding what style of play they feel they should protect.

'Bout time.
