I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 6 year deal for him.

Yeah, if Babcock falls in love he tends to make sure his favorites are taken care of.

It's part of what has me a little worried about Hyman's next contract.

Hyman is RFA after this season, so Lou would still have the reins on negotiation. If he could get Kadri at 4.5M, I'm pretty sure Hyman's won't be such a disaster.

What about a Ryan Ellis-ish contract. 4-5 years @ $2.5-3M AAV?

These RFA Defensemen contracts have all ended up lower than I expected.

I like Zaitsev and I'd be okay going up to 30 years old with him.

Zaitsev you'd think is more of a case where the KHL is a legitimate issue. Also, there's a difference between negotiating a RFA deal at 21 or 22 and one at 25 with UFA status right around the corner.

I forgot to take that into consideration, mostly going by comparable age, role, and projected points. It wouldn't bother me at all to go $4M for him.

Me either. Especially now that it looks like the chances of seriously upgrading the defense via free agency or trade is more and more remote.

I'm not super worried about Hyman, as his current production gives him basically zero leverage.

Babs says Holland stayed at home after talking to agent, denies radio speculation that he pulled Nylander from Saturdays game. Medical call.

Could we have seen the last of Holland?

Holland's agent met with Lou. Holland opted to stay back after consulting with Lou and his agent. I'm assuming waivers or a trade is in the works.

?It?s just Seth Griffith."
?It?s just Peter Holland.?
?It?s just Josh Leivo.?
Suddenly: *poof depth*

I mean, he's not wrong, but, we're not exactly talking about hard to replace depth, either. If we're just looking at this season, there's still Laich, Greening, and Michalek around if depth if decent quality depth is what you're after - not to mention the young guys on the Marlies that will hopefully be able to push the likes of Martin, Smith, Hyman, etc., down in (or out of) the lineup.

From Holland's agent:
"Peter and Lou met this weekend. At this time, it appears that Peter's future with the club is limited and, Lou will do his best to trade him. Lou also stated that Peter not go on the road trip during this time frame."

Also, Leivo is still with the team.

If Holland goes for a late/conditional pick, a spot opens up for Leivo.

It's working hard noting that of all of the rookies, the Leafs' Nylander sports the most TOI minutes.

I'm hoping one of the Leafs rookies -- at this point, Matthews or Nylander -- win the Calder.  It's too early to tell yet, but just to see the chart warms the heart of the LeafsNation.  :)

I think Marner is going to run away with it (my bold prediction).

Laine will win if he keeps up his goal scoring.  He's on pace to top 40 goals.

Id rather team wins that anyone winning individual trophy's. Doesn't matter to me. I am just thrilled we have three talented kids.... or actually 5 right now
