Troll votes.

I'd expect more from SBNation than to allow those to be included. Although the other possibility is just utter stupidity so...

Could be a group that really leaned on experience, and ended up voting for lower ceiling older players. Gaudreau's range was 5th to 22nd and he's a 24 year old.

I have no other ideas as to why at least one voting pool completely forgot about Eichel.

You know, even his highest ranking is a surprise to me. He would have probably been 3rd on my list (behind McDavid and Matthews of course).

Surprised me too. Murray got at least one #2. I imagine Kucherov would be in that mix as well.

I'd probably have:

McDavid
Matthews
Kucherov
Eichel

Laine will be 3rd or 4th I think.

7. Leon Draisaitl

Highest rank: No. 4
Lowest rank: Not ranked

This is... this has got to be the Winnipeg site.

It's not! https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2017/8/18/16162136/nhl-top-25-under-25-rankings-2017-mark-scheifele-winnipeg-jets

Can we just ignore the not ranked bit? I mean, it's just monkey throwing poop at a dart board at this point.

Should we start predictions on AM34s lowest rank?

I wonder if Philly is starting to wonder about Giroux:

13-14 - 86 points
14-15 - 73 points
15-16 - 67 points
16-17 - 58 points

He's 29 yrs. old, and has 5 more years at $8.275m.

They could really use a JvR to maximize the remainder of Giroux's deal. Sanheim + a 1st coming back would be all it takes.

I'd still put Nylander over Pastrnak, but that might just be homerism talking.

But why?

Mostly homerism.

Also: Centre > Wing (even thought they're both playing wing at the moment).

Pastrnak's counting stats buoyed by playing with two elites in Bergeron and Marchand. Nylander has the (slightest) edge in career points per game while playing only part of one season with Matthews, while Pastrnak has played on the better team up until last year (maybe). Pastrnak is better in most season-level counting stats at the moment, having had more NHL time than Nylander's artificially suppressed career, but Nylander's play with and away from the puck is better (more takeaways and fewer giveaways). Pastrnak has the better Corsi numbers (and definitely drives play relative to his team), but Nylander has the better Dangerous-Fenwick numbers, both per 60 and relative. I don't have xG numbers unfortunately, but it'd be interesting to see as I recall Nylander underperforming his xGs (low shooting percentage at evens).

If I'm charting trajectory for the next 4-5 years holding things relatively steady in deployment, etc. Pastrnak is riding shotgun to a declining Bergeron and Marchand (do they have a follow-up centre?), while Nylander is winging for a Matthews on the rise.
