2016-2017 NHL Thread

So Kucherov, Laine, Matthews, McDavid?

No doubt.

I know I mentioned his name before, but I'm pretty surprised Ristolainen wasn't on the list.  Led his team in PP and PK time, had 45 points last season.

I'd take all the defencemen listed in the articles HM section (Hamilton, Trouba, Klingberg, Klefbom, Slavin) plus Ghostbear over Risto.

He's only 22, man?

So? It's not like those other defencemen are in their 30s. IF he improves his game I'll adjust my rankings next year, but that's where I see him right now.

This article came out very recently that took a look at his game: http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/the-curious-case-of-rasmus-ristolainen-what-role-is-sabres-d-man-best-suited-for

He's basically an elite PP performer who's being played WAY too much at even strength because the rest of Buffalo's defence is, well, crap.

Eichel at 8 is criminal.

I can't put my finger on Pastrnak, but I certainly wouldn't have him 5th.  I'd take 6th through 10th over him, and even some guys in the teens.

I read your link.

I guess I'd say that quarterbacking the best PP in the league is a pretty big accomplishment for a 22 year old, especially given Buffalo's pretty mediocre talent level.  The fact that Bylsma also leaned on him to lead PK minutes as well suggests to me that he's got a defensive game, even if their PK was ranked 25th...maybe just needs some time to develop that part of his overall game.

Let's throw another semi-crazy thing out there.

Seth Griffith scores over 10 goals (pro-rated to 82 games) next season.

Oh good, you're still on that train.

I bet you think that Suglobov never got a fair shake too?

What do you mean, what happened to your faith in him? He'll score plenty more than that with the Amerks.

I was thinking sheltered third line minutes with Reinhart/Larsson, or subbing for Okposo with O'Rielly.

I don't see it. If Reinhart stays on the wing then they've got him, Okposo, and Pominville all on the right side. Kane, Pouliot, Girgensons, and Moulson on the left side. Plus a bunch of young guys like Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, and maybe even Nylander fighting for potential jobs too. It's not a playoff bound group for sure but it seems like Griffith would be pretty low on their depth chart. He'd need to crush it in the A and then hope for an injury or two to get a look.
