I just wanted to reiterate how ridiculous Martin's contract is. They gave HIM a $10M contract? I don't think anyone thought things would get this good this quick.
I can envision Martin on a boat and this boat is heading to a tropical island....Robidas Island..get out the fruity drinks with umbrellas.
What will be the ailment that puts him LTIR? Busted ego probably aka upper body injury. The doctor's note will have to be a little more creative though.

He may suffer a Rupnee and bang his head on the mantlepiece

Polak placed on IR and Justin Holl recalled from the Marlies.

Hopefully Roman is on a one way trip to Robidas island.

This is a well deserved break for Holl, who participated in his first AHL All-Star game on Monday.

Polak is out with a viral infection (there's a mega flu/cold going around; bless whoever shared the same weight bar as Polak.). Hainsey is also ill and a game time decision.

This could get interesting.

I'm glad that Dermott is getting a shot, and I'm sure that Polak wasn't the right guy, but are we comfortable with Carrick playing every night?...because I'm not.  Carrick and/or Borgman doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'd really like them to pick up a d-man before the deadline.  It's really the Achilles heel of this team right now.

Grab Severson from NJ!  He's lost PP time and seems to have been pushed out of the top4 by Vatanen and Santini.  He's only 23 with term on his contract.

As the team's 6th defenceman behind Rielly, Hainsey, Gardiner, Zaitsev, and Dermott? Yeah, pretty comfortable. An upgrade would be nice, sure, but, I don't think there's a significant upgrade to had there at a price point that's worthwhile.

Polak's injury may have bought us a little bit of time, but the Leafs are going to have to make some pretty tough decisions with their roster soon to get them to 23 guys once Rielly, Soshnikov, and Polak are all off the IR.

Two players are going to have to go, likely 1 forward and 1 defenceman. Kapanen and Dermott are easy targets as neither are waiver eligible (Borgman is the only other guy who wouldn't need to clear waivers to get sent down), but they sure are making it look like they deserve to be here.

Marlies play Friday and Saturday and then they are off all week and then play Friday, Saturday and Sunday next week. I suspect Soshnikov will play most of those games and then be back with the Leafs.

It's been speculated that they'd do that for awhile now. Calling it a "long-term injury" loan just means that they don't have to take him off the IR yet.

13.9 Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan.

A Player who is on the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception as set forth in Article 50 may, with his consent, during the term of such Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception (but in no event during the first fourteen (14) calendar days and six (6) NHL Games), be Loaned on a Conditioning Loan (the ?Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan?) for a period not to exceed up to the longer of six (6) days and three (3) games, solely for the purpose of determining whether the Player is fit to play. If the Club determines that it needs more time to assess the Player?s fitness to play, the Club may file a written request with the Commissioner?s Office, with a copy to the NHLPA, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereof, to extend the Loan for an additional two (2) games. The Commissioner, upon good cause, may approve the one-time extension. The Commissioner?s approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. A Player on a Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan will continue to be listed on Injured Reserve and will not count against the Club?s 23-man roster limit.

So 3 games or 6 days. 3 games is the longer of the two, per WIGWAL's outline of the Marlies' schedule.

I assume they'll want to stretch this out like crazy; assuming they are allowed to count only the games in which he is on the game roster, Sosh plays one this weekend, then takes the week off until next Friday + Sunday without drawing too much attention. Which gives the Leafs tonight's Ranger match, Boston on Saturday, Ducks on Monday, Preds on Wednesday, and sens on Saturday to play Kapanen.

Fire - Polak
Waive - Martin
Marry - Kapanen

The Leafs continue to prove that Babcock hurt the team with his boneheaded lineup decisions.

Let?s see if he has the fortitude to keep Polak and Martin out of the lineup and Komarov away from the top 9 for good.

Polak is the one I'm most concerned about the team not sticking, as it was forced on Babcock rather than it being his choice.

Me too. With all the young talent they have at the back end, he?d have to be crazy to make room for Polak. Yet that?s exactly what I expect him to do.

For the record, the Leafs are 14-14 with Polak in the lineup and 16-4 (!) without him in the lineup.

With those facts, it should be enough to sway Babcock and dissuade him from re-instating Polak in the lineup.

You need to dig deeper though and get the Babcock stats of RealGudPro% and RealGudHumanBean% both of which Polak is off the charts real gud.
