Wow guys we really dodged a bullet here.  Dermott sounds like he'll hopefully be ok for the playoffs.

Too bad Dermott can't dodge pucks.
I'm still waiting for you to make another game day thread.  I thought you were the guru.

This is relevant to us since it looks like we're probably playing Tampa 1st round, Stamkos is currently day-to-day with a lower body injured. Likely happened from this play:

I'm sure the Lightning are being cautious and it's not a very serious injury, but if Stamkos isn't 100% that'll be a big deal.

They say he's day-to-day, but I'd have buried him in nowheresville, say he's week to week with a LBI, make everyone wonder, then start him on the opening face-off.

They should announce that he died and then have him pop up from a casket as they're announcing the starting line-up, Undertaker-style.

Tampa beat Boston 4-0 last night. That puts the two teams even at 110 points each, but Boston still has a game in hand. These are their remaining schedules:

Boston: Thurs. @ FLA, Sat. vs OTT, Sun. vs FLA

Tampa: Fri. vs BUF, Sat. @ CAR

So both teams have a back-to-back left. Florida still technically has playoff hopes but they'll likely need to win out to even have a shot. Tampa's playing two teams with no playoff hopes, but they're only 1-1-1 against Buffalo so far this season.

There was an interesting twitter poll by @regressIan last night that asked: Assuming only one of these players gets a spot in the lineup (and I agree, I think it should be both), which one would you choose: Johnsson or Kapanen? Kapanen won with 76% of the results.

I love Kappy, but I think I lean Johnsson here if only for the fact that he'll play on both speciality teams and for some reason Babcock won't play Kapanen on the PP. Having Johnsson in that slot position over Komarov is such a massive upgrade.

That's a tough one. I really can't make a choice.

This is Sophie's choice, I can't decide between 2 players I love.

Let's put some pressure on then: if you don't pick one of the two then Babcock goes with Martin instead.

Damn you!  I'll take Kapanen solely because I saw how he played in last year's playoffs.

Johnsson - Plekanec - Kapanen: is the best 4th line the Leafs have had probably ever.
Komarov - Plekanec - Kapanen: is still a pretty good 4th line; but that means Komarov is on PP2, unless they completely abandon the normal setup and have Matthews in the bumper with Kapanen on the LHW and play it Marner-style.
Komarov - Plekanec - Johnsson: can work (work work work work), but it'll be a more difficult NZ transition game for 3Ls

Hey instead of diddling around with silly webpolls how bout you get cracking on the GDT hmmm?  Tonight's game is the biggest test of the year, what with going up against Brodeur, Stevens, Niedermayer, etc.  I'll bet 34/29/16 won't even get 6 shots on net.

Oh, I assumed he was talking about next season.

You've mentioned before that you don't think Kapanen, a righty, can work in the bumper spot on that PP unit. I really don't think that's true. Matthews and Nylander don't use the bumper the same way Marner does, it's not for high tips or anything like that. On that unit the puck typically gets passed around in a diamond between Matthews-Nylander-Gardiner-whoever is in front of the net (now Marleau). The slot guys usually just hangs around and if the defenders abandon him Matthews or Nylander pass him the puck to get a shot off. Like that Komarov chance the other game that he shot wide. But I don't think handedness really plays a large role there, especially since the pass can come from either side of the ice as opposed to Marner's unit when it usually just gets from his.
