Rutherford also questioned if his players weren't trying hard enough because they wanted to leave the bubble and go back to their families.

Like, I'm sorry but anyone who watched the Canadiens in the regular season and now in the playoffs and is thinking "Yeah, these playoffs are really separating the wheat from the chaff" needs to have their head examined.

Yeah I mean what were seeing is kind of insane. Basically to me the regular season is even more irrelevant than I even imagined.

Robby Fabbri signs for 2 more in Detroit.

Capfriendly has it at $2.95 X 2.

The National Hockey League has sanctioned the Arizona Coyotes for violating the NHL's Combine Testing Policy during the 2019-20 season, directing the forfeiture of the Club?s 2nd-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and 1st-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

At the time of this edict, Arizona now has no picks in rounds 1 (NJD), 2 (NHL foreit), 3 (COL to WAS) for 2020.

Good.

I forget... what did we give up for Babcock/Lamoriello?

3rds I think.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs-keep-third-round-draft-pick-2016-2017-2018-compensation-mike-babcock-lou-lamoriello-new-jersey-detroit-red-wings/

The Maple Leafs must forfeit a third-round pick to the Detroit Red Wings and a third-round pick to the New Jersey Devils as delayed compensation for hiring away head coach Mike Babcock and general manager Lou Lamoriello, respectively.

2017 Detroit picked 79th overall: Lane Zablocki
I have no idea what happened to the 2018 pick as it got traded around a bit
Found it! San Jose Sharks got Linus Karlsson with pick 87 of 2018.
NJD traded it to Washington for Johansson, they sent it to Chicago for Kempny, and they traded it to the Coyotes for a higher 2018 3rd round pick, and they in turn traded it to San Jose  for a 4th and 5th.

Yep we lost our 3rds in 2017 (Babcock) and 2018 (Lamoriello)

The policy was stopped Jan 1, 2016 so we got to enjoy the cost of it and none of the benefits.

As Nik has been saying, the NHL is not a league of teams across a wide spectrum.  Teams are trended toward mediocrity.  There isn't a dominant team or unique style of play.  A player gets hot and has luck on his side for his shooting percentage and it doesn't matter how good your goalie is if pucks bounce off 3 legs and end up in the net.  You can have a team with a great PP and get 45 PP opportunities in 10 games or a team with a great powerplay and get 13 powerplays in 5 games.  Your goaltender can stand on his head for a few games and be unbeatable or he can let in an untimely sieve goal and sink your season.

A bad team isn't going to win the Cup but a bad team is going to be able to win games and potential steal a series because of a lot of luck.

That's a hefty punishment for conducting testing on players.

Goals get called back for offsides.
Nothing happens for crosschecks to the head :) unless you?re Kadri.

They were originally looking at a $5mil fine ($250k per incident, allegedly at least 20 players were illegally tested).

Yeah. With all that, it's a fair punishment. It's just that, as you know, the NHL's punishment standards are . . . well, it would be nice if they penalized players as harshly as they did teams and coaches.

I think one thing this shows is that the players/PA deserve criticism for that as well as the NHL. Especially when it comes to suspensions, they've often fought back on any idea of them being stiffer.

But they've done that within the context of the NHL and Bettman specifically having final say on suspensions. No credible union in the world would allow for management to suspend players as long as they wanted without having an independent appeals process.

Yeah, I'm less concerned about suspensions (though, they could/should be more severe). It's the fact that players can only be fined such a meaninglessly small amount compared to their salaries.

Sure but same problem there. If you want significant fines, you'd need players to have some sort of independent arbiter.
